View Full Version : 12 Weeks later, MS ask if customer wants to cancel 5 free HD DVD offer
A MaxConsole reader mailed us in to let us know about his frustrations in not receiving the five free HD DVD movies with his purchase of the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on. He purchased the drive on August 1st and mailed out the form to claim his HD DVDs by August 6th, after a variety of problems he was sent a letter today which indicated that his movies would ship towards the end of the November and he was welcomed to cancel the 'order' if he wished.

I bought the HD DVD add on for my xbox 360 Aug 1st 2007. I filled out the form to get the 5 free HD DVDS. mailed it on aug 6 2007. I gave them 10 weeks, just like they asked. the guy answers, I gave him my information, and they said they didn't receive it yet.. I said that was crazzy, it was 10 weeks... he said I had to resend the form, and sales slip.. so I did. about 4 weeks later, I call again.. a lady answers... she said they got my info on aug 14.. that I need to give them the alloted time. now its monday, november 5 2007, and I get this in the mail - Do I wish to cancel my order? what the hell is this, no, I want my HD's...
Thanks Jason.

I'm having the same problem with the Blu-Ray promotion. I mailed out my request on August 4th and am still waiting. I phoned them up last week and asked why I have not received them yet, they said that they received the request August 24th (Bullshit, as they're an hour from me!) and I would have the videos by November 1st.
November 5th here people, no Blu-Ray movies
I'm gonna call them tomorrow and ask why they have felt the need to scam everyone if they aren't going to send the videos.

I got my card today. I sent my info about 8 weeks ago. I don't mind the wait to much...I'm just glad to know they got my info and proof of purchase.

I just got off the phone with the HD-DVD deal customer service representatives. Basically, be polite, ask for a supervisor, complain, and if enough people do it hey may send us out a bonus movie or two as compensation. I was really nice to the people and the supervisor and he was like, "I would be dissatisfied too."
The supervisor I spoke with was a young guy by the name of Chris and the number I used is 1-800-403-3103 (original offer), the alternate number is 1-800-405-7520 (revised offer).
By the way, the explanation as to why they are offering to cancel the order is so that people can go ahead and buy the movies they requested instead of wait. I asked them how that made any sense and if there was any alternative compensation and they said there wasn't. I think it has more to do with them wanting people to cancel to fulfill other peoples orders.
No matter how pissed you get please DON'T CANCEL!!! If we make a big enough deal about this they will be forced to do something about it.

Alex
P.S. What is the phone number for the Blu Ray deal?

It seems obvious that this is the standard letter for orders whether free or purchased. If you had a paid order and there was a delay then you'd want to be notified with the possibility to cancel the order. It's not like they are suggesting he should cancel his freebies. It's just the standard letter format.

I hope that is the case because the customer service reps I spoke to (two of them) both said it was for the purpose of allowing the customer to go and buy the titles instead of wait.
Purely ridiculous!

They changed the offered movies, probably because of the backlog of orders.

The point is.... you are the one with the money they need you so don't let them tell you whats going to happen.

they say u can cancel ur order because they do REAL orders. ala people buy movies from them.
itll be a default response to you like if u had actually paid for them. that is all
if u think they said that to try and get out of sending you free movies your wrong, as sony/m$ is paying for them :P
EDIT: just realised im not the only smart one out here lol

If I remember correctly they are required by federal law to offer to cancel any order after a certain amount of time even if it makes no sense. I suspect the postcards were more to comply with the law then trying to get people to cancel their orders.

This is what both customer service reps told me:
". . . [T]he explanation [they gave me] as to why they are offering to cancel the order is so that people can go ahead and buy the movies they requested instead of wait. I asked them how that made any sense and if there was any alternative compensation and they said there wasn't. I don't know about the legal statutes involved but that is what they said. They can be wrong, but that IS what THEY said.

I sent mine out in Sept. (original offer) and got a letter from them a month later saying that I messed up. I had to resend everything with all the corrections made by November 17. I'm going to be moving to New York in two weeks so I hope they arrive before then but I doubt it.

Don't stress too much. I don't remember what my Blu-ray offer said as a time frame, but I just recently sent in my HD-DVD offer and it said 8-12 weeks. I am sure the Blu-ray offer was the same. You know companies are going to wait last minute so they can pull from the overstock sendbacks from retailers, and most sendbacks happen the first week in January. I think my Blu-ray offer is in getting close to 12 weeks and I haven't seen them yet. I remember having the same issue with an awesome laserdisc deal years ago, and I remember calling and complaining tactfully and respectfully. When I finally got them they gave me all three Indiana Jones movies as a bonus, which was much better than the other 3 movies I picked. Sometimes following up isn't a bad thing as long as you're patient and not screaming like a lunatic. I know this is getting wordy, but what's up with these subtle 360 bashes, "Get a PS3." What does this have to do with free movies. Getting King Kong, Heroes, and 5 other movies-crappy or not, is a great deal. Just because this combo was the result of buying the MS player, doesn't mean that MS is involved with the promotion delays. This is just the consequence of free. It happens. I can think of many times that companies never sent me rebates on items I bought.

Microsoft isn't asking anything, the company that Toshiba partnered with to handle this offer is.

Bingo. Exactly.
It's amazing the conclusions that people jump too when they have not read up on anything.

I thought I was the only one who noticed that, lol. I'd just wait and if I didn't receive them I'd consider it a blessing in disguise.

I did the blu-ray offer in late September....so I won't be getting a postcard like this for awhile...
However, I wouldn't mind...cause at least you KNOW when to expect to get them....I'd love a shipping date post card for these type of this all the time
