Thought we should start a thread where we give Newbies the information they need in order to educate themselves. We were all Newbies at one time, and we all had to learn this stuff somewhere.

If you know some good information that would be helpful to a new PSP owner, share it.

NOTE: This thread is for educational information (eg. FAQs, Guides and Tutorials) only! Please, do not post questions in this thread.

There is also a Tutorials Forum (http://forums.maxconsole.net/forumdisplay.php?f=100) here at MaxConsole. Check it out but keep in mind that some of it may not be geared to Newbies.

Not sure how to get large files from the Internet to your PC, and from there to your PSP?

Here's a great set of guides on how to use the most popular file fetching utilities:

And here's a guide on how to transfer files from your PC to your PSP:
PC to PSP Basic Connection Guide (http://www.psp-vault.com/module-pnForum-viewtopic-topic-9-start-0.psp)
Note: Requires a USB-A to mini-B cable which must be purchased separately.

The memory stick that comes with the PSP holds 32 MB. That's really only enough for saving your game scores and not much else.

If you want to do more with your PSP one of the first things you'll need to do is get a new memory stick with a larger capacity.

My advice would be to buy the largest capacity you can afford. For example, if you want to play your UMD (disk) games from the memory stick, the disks can hold games up to 1.6 GB in size. That means you'd need a 2 GB memory stick to be sure it can hold the largest games. While it is possible to fit some games on smaller capacity memory sticks, in future you may be frustrated with your options if you purchase anything smaller than a 1 GB stick.

Here's a good article comparing a couple of memory stick brands:
