o a couple weeks ago i was installing my Wiikey and a internal memory card mod with internal wave-bird. worked pretty well but i wanted to add a switch to the memory card and was having problems with the switch not working. because of this i hadn't put my wii back together. I keep my wii on my footstool about a foot off the ground because i have carpet in my room. As you guys are probably already guessing is it fell off. There was no game in the drive. So i pick it up, turns on all is good. Try putting in a game and it wont take it. so i take it apart. put in the game myself. On the wii main page i click on the drive channel. shows animation of the wii and game cube game spinning for barely 2 seconds and saying there is a DRE. The game is not spinning but i can see the laser is on.
1. I have concluded that that loading mechanism on the right side of the drive is not the culprit. The motor that accepts the disk wont turn. so i took out the "gear rod" that connects the motor to the loading mechanism. The wii will now accept disks if I push it in myself.
2. I do not believe that the spring mechanism on the top of the drive that helps push out the disk and hold the disk in place during spinning is damaged. The only problem i could see is maybe on one of the springs there is a "cam" that interlocks on the bottom half of the drive to push a switch or something. Could anyone confirm this for?
3. Base on previous posts users with similar problems to me have been saying that a torn ribbon cable is to blame. Looking at it I cannot see any damage to it; However i will try replacing it with an old one from one of my broken ps2's.
4. The top of the drive is connected to the bottom with a small ribbon cable. This ribbon cable is connect to a small bit of PCB with two components, almost like two small LED's. Does anyone know what these do as it will help in isolating the problem?
If anyone has any suggestions or advice on getting my wii reading games would be appreciated and if anyone could answer my questions i would be equally appreciative.
