Hey all,

I am having a problem with this and not sure if I have some incorrect information. I am under the understanding that with the new 1.9 update (not 1.9g SMG fix) that the wii should be able to load the wiikey config discs. I have tried to burn 1.2 and 1.3 config discs. I have used the disc utility that is on a Mac as well as tried using Imgburn, I also tried to make the file size 2 GB and burn that with no luck either. Everytime my NTSC wii with 3.1 FW will see a GC disc and when I try and load it, it says the disc is dirty and I should eject and turn off the wii and read the manual. Can anyone help me out? The reason I am doing this is to try and change the read speed to 3x since I can't get my MP3 backup to load. The wii just can't read the disc and I have tried burning that with the Mac and Imgburn. The MP3 is an NTSC copy. Any help on this matter would be awesome. Thank you in advance.

So a small update, I managed to get MP3 to work, but what do I need to do in order to get the config discs to load? Can anyone help me out there? Thanks.

You will need to make a gcos boot disc for it to work. instructions on how to do this can be found at

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/566969.

but to summarise the whole page this may help

Hi

I can now confirm that the 1.3 config disk won't read directly in a Wii updated to v3.1. Here's how to use it:

You'll need:

Gamecube controller
GCOS boot disk

1. Download any GC Multi-disk, or just download 'make-multiv3' and create a GCOS boot disk.
2. Boot it up in the Wii and you'll be presented with two options - select 'Boot DVD'.
3. It will ask you to enter a DVD and press A to continue. Eject your disk and insert your 1.3 config disk. Press the A button on your gamecube controller.
4. It should read the disc and present a list of files/folders. Highlight 'bootldr.dol' and press A.
5. The config disc menu should appear.

This 100% works as I carried it out on a 3.1 Wii about an hour ago!

it worked perfectly i'm playing gundam japanese version right now
thanks alot!!!!
here's what we did:
1. downloaded wiikey setup v1.3 and unziped it
2. run fixsize on the command prompt to correct the size of bootdisc.us.iso file using this format: fixsize bootdisc.us.iso ..fixsize and bootdisc.us.iso are included in the wiikey setup v1.3 zip file
3. downloaded make-multiv3 and unziped it
4. copied bootdisc.us.iso file and pasted it on the same folder as the unziped make-multiv3
5. run make-multiv3 on the command prompt using this format: make-multiv3.exe output.iso USA bootdisc.us.iso. this will create output.iso file
6. burned output.iso to verbatim dvd-r using nero at speed 4x
7. burned bootdisc.us.iso to verbatim dvd-r using nero at speed 4x
8. booted wii with the output.iso disk
9. followed above instruction from steps2 thru 5 from Xb0xGuru

we cannot promise that this will work for everybody but it definitely worked for us 100%.

thanks to Xb0xGuru without you we would still be making coasters out of the bad bootdiscs.

Well, I think the first thing you should do is update your WiiKey to 1.9b. The 1.3 config disc should work with 3.0. Some people have reported problems when using the 1.3 config disc with 3.0, the wii supposedly says"An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button....." But there is workaround for this. First try and see if the config disc works without doing anything, if it does you're set. But if it doesn't work, download the GCOS version of the disc (found here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/wiikey/59745-g...onfig-disc.html (http://psx-scene.com/forums/wiikey/59745-gcos-versions-wiikey-1-3-config-disc.html) ), and that one is bound to work.

This posted on another forum to solve the same issue I had.

So we are out of luck if we don't have a gamecube controller?

Did you read the last comment?

This one doesn't work for me either (Wii 3.0U + WiiKey 1.9g). Not recognized as a valid disc. The GCOS version that you posted earlier works fine though. Thanks for trying

Has anyone tried booting the unofficial config1.2b disc?

This was released as an unofficial work around when the new updates didn't allow booting of many known 'illegal' discs such as the config discs. Something to do with the wrong headers.

Anyway this is the exact same as config1.2 but with a different header so it should boot without the GCOS disc, which also means you don't need a GC controller :)

The config DVD that I downloaded last week from the WiiKey site directly boots on my 3.1 firmware Wii.

WiiKey setup disk v 1.3, firmware upgrade v 1.9g.

Both boot directly from the Wii menu without the need for a bootdisk.
