Folks, I have DREs on any backup discs since update 2.2U to 3.0U.
Currently my Wii is 3.0U D2B. I'm trying to upgrade Wiikey to 1.9b... but never get it to work.
Your help will be much appreciated.

I've checked my Wiikey installation, all points are connected. I also believe it's an original Wiikey.

These are my questions + what I've tried. None works. I'm hoping you can simply point the number to comment or correct the statement.

0. I'm using a new Pioneer 112D and ImgBurn. I've tried Ridata+R, TaiyoYuden-R and Verbatim+R.

1. According to this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=70279), 1.9b disc won't work on 3.0 and I need a GCOS disc to boot.

2. According to this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=81838), 3.0 blocks headers of backup/config disc. So if I simply burn 1.9b or 1.3 disc, it wo't work. GCOS is needed to by-pass 3.0.

3. Question: Modchip is not needed for reading GCOS disc. Is this true?

4. I found this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=81662), ran [filechop.exe gcos_config_1.3.iso 1459978240] to create a 1.4GB file, and burnt it. DRE. Failed.

5. Then I read that in order to work, GCOS needs to include at least one game in it.

6. So I tried using make-multiv3 (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=53005) to make a GCOS disc with one game (TwilightPrincess) in it... also DRE.

7. I kept trying. Then I found WiiUIv140 and used it to make a GCOS with TwilightPrincess. Still... DRE.

Any suggestions to try?? A download of iso to burn, a link of media to try, or a thread to follow...

Thanks much!!

0. I'm using a new Pioneer 112D and ImgBurn. I've tried Ridata+R, TaiyoYuden-R and Verbatim+R.

DVD-R have best results, burnt at 4x

1. According to this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=70279), 1.9b disc won't work on 3.0 and I need a GCOS disc to boot.

That's right.

2. According to this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=81838), 3.0 blocks headers of backup/config disc. So if I simply burn 1.9b or 1.3 disc, it wo't work. GCOS is needed to by-pass 3.0.

GCOS is needed yes.

3. Question: Modchip is not needed for reading GCOS disc. Is this true?

It is necessary. Without a modchip you cannot run anything on a disc.

4. I found this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=81662), ran [filechop.exe gcos_config_1.3.iso 1459978240] to create a 1.4GB file, and burnt it. DRE. Failed.

Still need GCOS

5. Then I read that in order to work, GCOS needs to include at least one game in it.

that's the multigame version by emukidd, which is the easiest to do. one gc game eg.

6. So I tried using make-multiv3 (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=53005) to make a GCOS disc with one game (TwilightPrincess) in it... also DRE.

make-multiv3 is the right way. but not if you did the wii version of twilight princess ofcourse ;p

7. I kept trying. Then I found WiiUIv140 and used it to make a GCOS with TwilightPrincess. Still... DRE.

stick with make-multiv3, correct media and burn speeds, and swap burners if u can to test that, and use imgburn always.

@manias: Thanks! :)

A couple of questions to help me clarify... since 4 and 5 seems to contradict.

Isn't (4) a gcos version of config v1.3? If not, how can I make a gcos version of config1.3?

Is (5) a correct statement?

Then...

8. Seems my mistake was to use make-multiv3 with a Wii game... causing DRE.

9. If (5) is wrong, then will [make-multiv3.exe output.iso USA configv13.us.iso] make a gcos version of config v1.3?
Or [make-multiv3.exe output.iso USA wkupdate.1.9b.us.iso] to make a non-DRE update disc?

Thanks!!

Get new media to burn on, a whisper in my ear said that Maxell DVD-R 1-8X (burnt at 4x) is working just fine and is realy cheap.

Wii update +3.0 blocks header of normal configdiscs, use a GCOS modified disc to be able to use the config. All configdiscs on wiikeys homepage is useless.

Any more questions ? ;P

@amerald: Thank for the media tips.

I really tried to make specific-yes-no-easy-to-answer questions on how to make gcos-modified disc of config/update disc.
My hope is to stop myself asking more unnecessary questions, and probably help other confused noobs. ;)

I understand that 3.0+ blocks header of normal configdiscs, but my questions remain.

I tried 1.9g downloaded from wiikey website, run fixsize on it, put the disc it, then I got: "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii Console off and refer to the manual ... "

I also tried make-multiv3 on a gc game.

Burn both at 4x with ImgBurn.

Tried both more than 5 times... same message.

Any ideas?
