View Full Version : Drive Will only swallow half of disc after D2Ckey install

Hi everyone,

I installed my first D2Ckey today and it all worked fine when I tested it all out while it was in pieces. Here's a pick of my install
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h296/a1133973/D2Ckeyinstall.jpg

But after I put it back together it started only taking half the disc before jamming. It's like it closes the hatch before the disc if fully sucked in. The disc end up jamming when the hatch closes on it.

I've had this happen before on a Wiikey install and I fixed it by just uninstalling the chip and reinstalling it. Thats no big deal on a easy 6 wire install, but I really don't want to do it with a 31 wire D2Ckey install.

Does anyone know why this may have happened and how I could easily fix it. It may be also worth noting that the place I put the chip doesn't allow me to fit the DVD drive back on properly, so when I closed it up for the first time the chip was up against the black plastic shield inside and the screws holding the back of the DVD drive weren't done up all the way to allow room for the chip. Don't know if that would have anything to do with it though.

Any help would be awesome.

i think you may have answered your own question -

but first - i have never installed a d2c chip - just my wiikey on my launch wii.

in any case, i'd try placing the chip a little differently. if the system can't close properly with it installed, that would be my first guess, especially since it works when taken apart.

side note - from what i can see on your soldier points - they look solid. you clearly are no n00b :)

I pulled it apart again and it still only takes half the disc.

I had the same problem a while back. Took my drive out and noticed the a small white plastic gear on the side of the drive towards the front had shifted to the side. It happened because a small metal ring that keeps the long skinny rubber disk roller thingy LOL from shifting worked loose and that pushed the gear out of alignment. If you look to the side of the rubber roller you will see the metal ring to the side of the roller on the rollers metal shaft.

Good luck.

EDIT: Nice work there ;)

Thanks Deeked,

That sounds like a good find that could have probs fixed the problem and it will hopefully help out others. I managed to fix it myself though. Here's how:

I don't know exactly why this worked but it did

1. I unplugged the ribbon form the sensor board that senses when a disc is inserted into the DVD slot. I unplugged it where it goes to the main drive board as it's taped to the sensor board and cannot be unplugged there.
2. I turned the Wii back on. It made lots of attempted eject/'swallow' sounds
3. I forced a disc all the way into the drive
4.I turned the Wii off and plugged the sensor board back in
5. I turned the Wii back on and the disc loaded and spun as normal. This was good as it was a backup disc and proved the D2Ckey was working and thus installed properly.
6. I pressed the eject. It ejected as normal.
After that the eject and 'swallow' mechanism started working as per normal again :)

I think forcing the drive to spin and eject must have forced a stuck gear or something to unstick.

Hope this helps someone out there.

This should be stickied?

If people think that the info is useful, I can take some pictures and point the specific locations I'm talking about. XPunked prolly has a drive laying around and it appears he knows how to take some good quality pics. If he feels like posting some too that would be kewl.

XPunked, glad you got it sorted out.

this happened to me for my d2key install also. I actually tried to see if something popped out from my install or something. But nothing was wrong. So I just decided to force the disc in and it took the disc fine. After that it fixed itself.

I'm not sure why that happens, but for the d2key install, if the dvd drive is spinning, it is usually a good sign.

Ok well here are a few extra pics to help people out.
Can people post here if it helped them out and I'll create a new thread for a proper tutorial.

#Turn off the Wii and unplug this ribbon cable.
**I thought about it and you might not have to do this. You might just be able to force a disc into the drive whilst the Wii is turned off**

#Turn the Wii back on. It will make a bunch of extended eject/'swallow' noises.

#Force a disc all the way into the drive.

#Turn the Wii off and plug the ribbon back in.

#Turn the Wii back on.
-If you installed a chip and the install is good and you inserted a backup disc it should load the game. If not then you know your install is bad.
-If it's an original disc it should load. If it doesn't then you've got bigger problems.

#Eject the disc. It should eject normally.

#Your eject/'swallow' problem hopefully is now fixed :)

If not have a look at this gear and see if it's moved out of place.

That's the one M8. Good job on the pics.

After a few more peeps have braved the D2C install we'll be able to gather a bit more info on this problem. Since there have been two confirmed problems with disk loading after an install, IMO this should be considered stuck for others to see.

Is there a D2C support Forum that's fully supported by the D2C Team that I could check into?

Not only was my cog 'misplaced' - The bloody thing fell out!!

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/eBay-UK/WiiCOG.jpg

It looks like the 'axle/spindle' it turns on has snapped!

It was a sad experience removing a 6 wire chip, knowing any replacement would be a 30 odd wire job!

I'm glad it wasn't my Wii :D
