I dont know what firmware my wiikey is on, and i have never updated before.

can i just update it to 1.9g? and my wii is running 3.0. can i play SMG with this firmware or must i upgrade to 3.1? why are so many people having trouble with this update?

i purposely did'nt update my wii until people could report the problems their having.

accoring to reports here you can skip the 1.9b update and directly update to 1.9g. if you are able to update at all that is and don't get that "test failed, check connections" crap like many of us and which there seems to be no way around

Maybe its the attack of the clones!! My original wiikey updated no problems. Never updated before went straight to the 1.9g. I'm on 3.1E Wii firmware.

I purchased a clone, and I was able to update to 1.9g without any hitches.

The only problems I ever had was when I tried to configure the clone when I initially installed it. Since then it's been running the wiikey's code and works fine.

I upgraded straight to 1.9g on original Wiikey on PAL Wii, no problems.

same here with my clone. Clones update just fine. From what I've read throughout this forum and others, unable to update could be due to a botched installation

Burn the iso to disc (I used ImageBurn), load it in the Wii and start the disc. Should take you to the Wiikey Update screen and the picture of a woman's butt. you can use a GC controller, or hit the reset button on the Wii to perform a test flash. Once that completes, hit reset again and it will flash/update the chip. When all is done correctly, you'll hear Homer Simpson say "you're all nuts" and reboot Wii.
