I updated to 1.9g, and Wii games still work great but now it seems that games only read at 3x even if I put the 1.3 config disc in and change it to 6x. I can tell by the sounds coming from the Wii drive that it's not running at normal 6x speed. Anyone else having this problem?

I am having this same issue as well. What a bummer. I hope a new config disc comes out to fix this unfortunate situation. 3x BLOWS. I noticed longer load times and streaming audio is crappy.

This is OK. Micro$oft was able to detect modded firmware on 360s because of the speed change on loading disc. Perhaps the Wiikey people are looking forward to the future in preventing systems from being banned online... it's a small price to pay for a little more loading time.... especially when SSB comes out. Nintendo may try to do release a different type of protection then.

I'd like to keep this topic bumped until this is verified or fixed. The default is 6X, right?

Is there going to be a major damage if the Wii continues to run at 3x?

This is OK. Micro$oft was able to detect modded firmware on 360s because of the speed change on loading disc.

This isn't true. Loading times can also be caused by a bad laser or scratched discs. The latest iXtreme firmwares give you the option of slow or fast reading speeds and according to the creator C4E MS isn't able to check your reading speed (which appears to be true since the slow readers do not get banned).

Could be different with the Wii ofcourse.

I don't know how accurate this is, at 3x it doesn't behave like the original disc so....

6X is the default speed for an unmodded Wii.

Just a quick update... original Wii games still read at 6X, just not backup Wii games.

To the OP.... are you 100% positive you have a legit Wiikey and not a clone?

With 400+ viewing this, can more people weigh in and let us know that after the upgrade, if you take the 1.3 config disc and check your read speed is it at 3x or at 6x? If it's at 3x and you change it to 6x then save and reboot then go back in with the config disc.... is it back to 3x or does it stay at 6x?

Yes, it's definitely an original Wiikey... I installed it myself as well.

mine also boot up as fast/slow as always probably just a bug or maybe people are imagining it.

I don't know if 3X affects load times on all games... I'm sure with some it does, and with others it doesn't. I don't know, and I really haven't tried comparing load times myself. However, if you listen to the drive, you guys should be able to tell whether or not it's at 6X. Try an original game then a backup and try telling me there's not a difference.

I realize that many members already had their Wiikeys set to 3X before this update so they really do not notice a difference. I can live with the 3X speed, but I just thought it was worth pointing out this bug in the 1.9g firmware.

the config disc is unable to "read" the settings from the wiikey... If you change any of the settings and save, the config disc will still only show what the default settings are...
