Mike Bilder, studio head of Midway Chicago has confirmed that the Xbox 360 and PC were the simultaneously the lead SKU's for Stranglehold although he believes that the PS3 version will be the same quality as the Xbox 360 hence the delay. Bilder also cited 'just technical difficulties' in development for the reason of the delayed release for the PS3 version.

We were just talking about the PS3 build of Stranglehold. That was delayed a bit, right?

Mike Bilder: Yeah, a little bit.

Why did that come about?

MB: Just, technical difficulties in development, but it has a number of people dedicated to it in Chicago, and they're working hard, and I think we're going to overcome them pretty quickly.

Do you really think that it's going to be the same level as the 360? Or better? What is your take on that?

MB: I think it's going to be the same. And that's part of the reason why we're delaying it, is that we want to ensure that the quality is the same on all platforms.

The 360 was the lead SKU, right?

MB: 360 and PC, actually, were simultaneously the lead SKU.

You see that is the problem right there. The 360 architecture in comparison with the PC architecture is so similar it makes creating cross platform (PC/360) so easy. The PS3 Cell architecture is so overly complicated and difficult to work on (I'm not saying it's worse its probably technically superior). But to program its a complete *****. When you have guys with experience working on the PC the CELL is a whole different beast to work with.

What our dear administrator left out was that the Midway Dev PREFERS to work with PS3, then port to 360

Midway developer Mike Bilder thinks making the PS3 the lead platform for development would alleviate a lot of the problems developers are having with trying to make a multi platform title.

In recent months we've seen half a dozen titles delayed for the PS3 because of difficulties dealing with the system. While many people think the system is harder to program for, the end result may be because of the memory differences between the systems.

What we found, though, when we tried to get some of it game-ready and fitting on the disc and fitting in memory, in the end it was an easier endeavor on two of the SKUs and it was a more difficult endeavor on one of them.

Mike's solution would be to have the PS3 as the lead platform. He believes this could help in some of the trickier areas, and due to both the 360 and PS3 being similar in power, you won't compromise frame rate or technology.

Doesn't sound like he said he prefers to work on the PS3, it sounds more like he thinks if the PS3 is lead platform then the memory issues will be dealt with to begin with instead of trying to adapt things from the 360 version. That way when transfering to the 360 instead, the memory problems will not be an issue.

Doesn't sound like he prefers either platform, he just prefers the path of least resistance.

why would a game developer make a game just for the ps3 when they can sell better if they made it on the 360? It also easier to format the game for the xbox.
