View Full Version : Latest Gamestop memo - No more 360 product replacement plans, limit Mario Playtime
The latest Gamestop memo has demonstrated two interesting policies. The first is that they are no longer offering Xbox 360 product replacement consoles on any console as they are allegedly losing too much money as a result of the scheme. Another interesting point is that employees are enocuraged to limit the amount of playtime that consumers have with Mario Galaxy in order to prevent people from playing it too much and posting videos and spoilters on the internet.

As you can see from the Gamestop mem we obtained, Gamestop is no longer offering Xbox360 Product Replacement Plans on any new console. The plans currently out there will stay good until they expire. When we asked our source why this is happening, we were told it was because GS is losing too much money on the program! You can read this all for yourself, we included three different copies of the document, as it was taken with a cell phone and is a bit hard to read. You should be able to read one of the enhanced ones, though. Check for yourself at the link!
One other thing you might have noticed in the Gamestop memo we posted earlier that details the discontinuation of the XBox360 Product Replacement Program is the Mario Galaxy part of the document. It basically tells GS employees to make sure to limit the time customers can spend playing the Mario Galaxy game on the Wii kiosk. According to the memo, this is in order to prevent customers from "playing too deeply into the game and posting video on the internet." Oh boy.

So much for the 360 = Fixed according to MS.
This has nothing to do with it being fixed or not, theres about 12 million 360's out there, which means about 11 million of those still have the x-clamp. They don't all magically get fixed because Microsoft said they've resolved the problem.

thing is people will still buy the 360..its a good console when its working but failure rate is terrible..its almost theft!!..they are very poorly designed..ms need to have their arse seriously kicked about this machine..i keep thinking about all those poor people who are getting one for xmas, and will be upset by the poor consoleS failure rate..how can they get away with this.???..its a real serious problem..virtually every day i get someone who phones me with a 360 prob, usually 3 red lights..its not right MS...

blade47167, I think you hurt a fanboy's Feelings (AKA Xenontc)
Then why when there are 12 million Wii's or a 100 million PS2's do they still offer Replacement plans on those. Its because Microsoft never fixed the problem and still makes RRoD boxes as proven with the latest Halo 3 SE xbox.... I still dont understand fan boys, why do they so adamently defend a system with a 40 % failure rate and an extremely high repeat failure rate.... if My PS3 did that I sure as hell wouldn't have anything nice to say about them... and would switch to another System.
As for people taking pics of the game and posting on the net, if anyone does it, its probably the store employees rather than the customers.... Also couldn't nintendo just build in a 15minute play limit into the demo they send out?????

Maybe if they dont want to replace them then they should not sell the F**kers in the first place,
& with super mario galaxy if the game is so F**king amazing wouldnt any vids/soilers put on the internet be more of a good thing as people may want to buy it seeing the amaing gameplay vids,I dont know maybe they game aint cracked up all to what it supposed to be & Just maybe nintendo dont want people playing too much in store as they may find out that the game is a little repetitve & gets boring after a while???thats just my guess

you guessed wrong. i assume you've seen all the gameplay videos showing loads of different levels and non-repetitive gameplay, well the finished one is supposed to have even more and lets face it its got pretty amazing reviews everywhere so far, ok, not ms $800+ worth but still about as good as possible.
as to the stopping of the product replacement plans its not suprising given how much its going to start costing stores like gamestop in a little over 12 months when the 3 year "fix" runs out, i guess they had hoped that by now ms would have admitted the problem and actualy fixed it, since it appears that the "falcon" 360's are still failing we are now looking to late 2008 for the next revision and thats going to be cutting it awfuly fine for we early adopters to get a fully working machine.

RROD are very beneficial to MS.
1. They encourage multiple purchases from consumers who already bought the hardware. This creates inflated/fake console sales (1 customer buys 3 or 4 360s)
2. Digital content purchases become jeopardized, meaning a percentage may just buy all the content again.
3. The console is guaranteed to die when MS is ready to release the 720. MS doesnt want the 360 to be purchaseable functionaly at a Goodwill for 5$.
4. Console hacks are guarenteed to happen. By making the first consoles available RROD friendly MS can expect a percentage of the original hackable consoles to die, thus pirates cant just buy early hackable systems because they are all dead from RROD.
MS is taking a page directly from sony with the DRE problem. The industry focuses on figures and statistics, thus it is a numbers game and the causes for the fake inflated console sales (ie one customer buying a 360 3 times is only one costumer buying games not 3...) is not relevant. Using this method, all the benefits of the victor go to MS.
Good business, bad gaming.

Ok great you have posted the same single example every fanboy links to....here's the challenge find another one...the newer 360's getting overheating related 3rod keeps getting posted but its always this same single example which is almost as meaningless as the video I can show you of my friends ps3 which wouldnt take disks all the way...they would go halfway in and then rock back and forth, or my own Wii which out of the box had white spots all over the screen when it was hooked up. Both have been replaced and both were just bad luck, concidering that link is the only example thats been posted anywhere, I would think perhaps its just bad luck as well.

... Are you seriously trying to convince people that RROD is a thing of the past? or a isolated issue? are you serious? Halo 3 has ripped your eyes, ears, and brains out, and converted you into a sheep.

dude you know the 360 has major problems and i own one. i traded the first week because it was over heating. and for all of you that say that you had to get 4 ps2 well that is nothing compared to having to get 10 360's. plus i have had a ps2 for 7 years almost and no problem.just look at this topic at the official xbox forums. you don't see that for the ps3 or wii. face it the 360 architecture is crap. the rrod club

Here I will type this slowly since your evidently having trouble comprehending....I never said the 360 didnt have problems. I actually have a friend that got a 3rod on his and I myself bought a broken one of craigslist to mess with (I fixed it with the penny trick and now the kids use it). What I was asking was for someone to show me some examples beyond the same one thats posted over and over of any of the falcon board systems having the same overheating problems. I thought maybe you were on to something a few pages back on the 360 forums but it was a link to the same pictures of the Halo3 edition that is always linked to. The 3 red light indicator means general failure which means it could be anything from bad video, ram problems, overheating, absolutely anything that doesnt have a specific code, having consoles dead out of the box isnt unheard of with any brand of console...the topic here is overheating and the 3rod problem and if after a couple months the only example is the same tired halo edition thats been posted ad nauseum I think its probably time to concider that maybe the issue has been addressed??

it has not. trust me by the end of the year the threads will go up and people will still be having defective 360's. you don't see this kind of return rate for the ps3 or wii. please stop kidding yourself the 360 has crappy architecture and nothing has changed with the new consoles.just look at the memo for gamespot about the 360. that is all you need to see

No I just want to see some examples other than the same damn halo3 edition is that really alot to ask?? So far thats the only one anyone has posted about.
I dont know what Halo3 has to do with this I played the first two levels and didnt find it that awesome but then im not into fps or shooters in general (I still havent even finished GoW). Ironically right now the only thing im playing is Folklore on my neighbors ps3 we swapped for the week. So far its ok...about the same as Eternal Sonata which I have yet to finish. I have Heavenly Sword here too but its just not my type of game I booted it up and played a while got to the part where im supposed to kill Flying Fox and put it down. I have RfoM here as well and will probably check it out tomorrow.
Sheep? You appoligize and defend every move Sony makes as if its some infallible gift from the gaming gods...while failing to comprehend that the vast majority of gamers dont give a rats ass about anything but playing games on a game console, most dont care about HD Movies or HDMI output and most dont even know what 1080p is.

That's the troof!
I can't tell the difference from 720p to 1080p. Its the same **** to me.
Ps3 fanboys crack me up. They would rather sit home and watch a bluray movie, rather then buy a 360 and play great game after great game.
Since owning a ps3 I haven't turned it on. I remember the days when my ps2 wouldn't get a break. I would play for hours non stop. Now the 360 is where its at.

Halo 360 Edition RRod (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=82016)Well first if your going to show this link at least know it's not 65nm model. The date on the back proves that and not having pictures of the inductors doesn't help. The Falcon model is the 1st 360 to stop using the famous X-Clamps and so far has no case of RROD. I would expect MS to be replacing the X-Clamps in all 360 repairs from now on, while newer purchase this christmas will mostly be falcon rev. Now if my falcon RROD I'll glady post that info for everyone, but I doubt it.

I would not mind owning a 360 to play some decient fps but i do not buy consoles that cant stand the test of time. Unlike some people i leave all my older consoles connected to the same tv and i dont get rid of the old for the new. I like to play my consoles years past their time. With xbox360 i dont see my self being able to play it 10 let alone 20 years later
