Bungie has posted up an update which indicates that they are about to activate a part of their anti-cheat system based on weeks of testing and recorded data. They claim they are about to swing their 'mighty mallet of justice' very soon and a few types of cheating will become extinct. The team reassures us that they will be working very hard to ensure the game remains safe and fair for the next few years.

We’ve mentioned before that we have implemented lots of security and anti-cheating systems in Halo 3. We’ll never have it perfect because we cannot stop people being idiots, but it’s already significantly better than ever before. We’re about to activate a part of it that required a few weeks of folks playing in the wild before we’d gathered enough data to activate it. Well, we’re just about ready to swing the mighty mallet of justice and it should make a couple of types of cheating extinct very shortly.

Halo 3 has been available for precisely one month and we’re going to be working harder than ever to make sure it stays a safe and fair place to play for the next few years. So please bear with us and remember we’re always watching and more importantly, acting on the information we receive, whether it’s immediately visible or not.

Well I had to stop playing because I kept getting in rooms with cheaters. Anyway what they do, is when they have host they standby their connection, you and your teammates and the guys on the other team can't move except for the guy standbying his connection. The guy continues to do this process and kills you while you can't move.

Well that is not cheating but some bug. Cheating is aimbots and wallhacks. You console gamers don't know what cheats REALLY are!

hey fix your buggy code for your perfect game. banning people for cheating i do understand, someone puts a cheat on a game and goes online that is one thing, but if they found several exploits (that all those millions of beta halo3 testers never found) and are using it. those exploits are bugs on your code and not the player using cheats. fix your code, you fix the cheating that simple. simon...

but instead they are just banning people left and right?

atleast with warhawk they are fixing their bugs, and not stating anyone found using exploits/glitches are being banned. no they are fixing them.

but what do you expect a perfect game to be fixed? no its perfect a 5 out of 5.

So you think using exploits until they are fixed should be allowed? Holy sh!t you are stupid.

The people that are using the exploits are obviously using them to get an unfair advantage against those playing the game it was meant to be played.

I for one, do not want the quality of my online gaming experienced to be reduced by people who find it necessary to exploit to have fun. These people know they are exploiting and should be banned because of it. No questions asked.

Yeah, why didn't all of those "beta testers" find these same exploits? Because they didn't want to report them but keep them to pwn you in the final product. Most of these people are in the 13-19 year old age group.

Everybody lawl at the bold. Anybody of intelligence should realize that you can't detect glitches and Bungie isn't talented so I really doubt they could revolutionize something that's been around since the dawn of gaming and that's plain and simple GLITCHES.

For cryin out loud:rolleyes:

Standby isn't a glitch you fucking moron and Bungie is trying more than any other company I've ever seen to stop people from cheating and using glitches to his/her advantage.

All you guys who think that standbying is a glitch in the game and isn't cheating sound like idiots.

Do you even know how standbye works? If so then you'll realize it's clientside and obviousely not serverside hence it can't be fixed unless they use a centralized server infastructure aka dedicated server.

It can't be fixed but it can be detected, and by banning the people that do standby then other people will stop. And it's not neccessarily a glitch in the game as most people think of when they think of glitches, BXR RRX, stuff like that.

It can be prevented by this. If any break in the host connectin is detected the entire game disconnects or a new host is chosen or no one can be killed during the standby. This will only work if they were smart when they programed the game

Stanby-ing is a cheat that can be utilized in any game that uses peer-to-peer. No console is exempt from that including the PS3. You hear about it more from Halo 3 and is more rampant because it has much more users than any other console game. 500,000 players a day, c'mon of course there are more cheaters. Just like there are more viruses written for Windows. Just like Honda civics and accords have more thefts.

I find Bungie is doing a grand job identifying and working on the problem when compared to other games and developers. But I think they are way too lenient in banning ppl. They should just ban them without notice and permanently. Say what you will, but I like that cheaters are less likely to cheat if their paid account is on the line. Imagine the alternative.
