Hironbu Sakaguchi has stated to Edge Magazine that MS has a big opportunity to create some impressive sales for the Xbox 360 in Japan this Christmas as it is the best line-up of titles that MS has ever had in Japan. Sakaguchi also remarked that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have to make a breakthough in terms of sales in Japan as the market is very much dominated by Nintendo.

With his company, Mistwalker, getting ready to release its second Xbox 360 exclusive RPG, Lost Odyssey, Hironobu Sakaguchi has claimed Microsoft has a big opportunity to generate serious hardware sales in Japan this Christmas.

Speaking exclusively in the latest edition of Edge magazine, Sakaguchi said Japanese gamers are taking their time warming to next-gen formats.

"Consoles like the 360 and PS3 have still to make a breakthrough in terms of sales [in Japan], and the market is very much about Nintendo," Blue Dragon's creator, Sakaguchi, told the magazine.

"The PS3 and Xbox 360 are clearly lacking titles to appeal to the Japanese gamer, but this is about to change, and the Xbox 360 in particular has an opportunity to prove itself at the end of the year. Its line-up is the best Microsoft has ever had in Japan."

Yeah, Hironbu Sakaguchi.. It has great potential. Maybe you should design an RPG for it, maybe call it Blue Dragon. I bet that would move millions of hardware units.

MS just needs to advertise it better. Being such a marketing-heavy company, I'm not sure what they're doing over there. They need to plaster it all over Tokyo.

It is called Final Fantasy because the company was going under and the last game they were set to release was an RPG game, they figured it would be there last so they named it Final Fantasy... hopefully that answers that question.

They also have nothing to do with one another so the number following the name is just that... only a name, the games are entirely different... thus the reason they continue to sell so well instead of declining as sequels normally do.

Didn't this same guy say XBox 360 was going to do so much better in Japan once Blue Dragon released? We all saw how that went.

BTW... Mass Effect won't do **** for Japan as it is still a shooter. Lost Odyssey on the other hand may have a pretty good chance at seeing good sales.

I was in Japan when they release blue dragon. They had posters everywhere in shibuya, akihabara, and shinjuku to name a couple of places. I didn't think marketing was the problem why that it didn't sell more 360s. I was going to buy a 360 to play blue dragon but it just didn't seems that fun to spend 400 dollars at that time. Bottom line is that there are not too many rpg games for the 360 and that could be the reason both ps3 and 360 are not doing to well in japan right now. I am still waiting for a tales series to be announced.

Japan just doesnt like getting ripped off on shoddy hardware.

For being the 2nd richest guy on the planet he sure does nickel and dime the hell out of you with Subscriptions, Overpriced proprietary accessories. ect. The 360 is technically the most expensive console of the 3. When you factor all the stupid stuff you need to buy to make the console "whole".
