EGM rumor: MS making new massively multiplayer online FPS for 360

The Rumor Mill of EGM's latest edition states "Microsoft may start a war--word is they're making a massively multiplayer online first-person shooter for 360. Hmm, wonder what Bungie is up to?"


We know for a fact that Bungie isn't done with the Halo universe yet and that the newly independent developer is in on Peter Jackson's Halo project. Since his secret game's genre is still undefined, it's definitely possible that it could be an MMO title. Granted, Microsoft has gone out of its way to refer to Jackson's Halo project as "interactive entertainment" as opposed to a "video game," so this may be an entirely new adventure in the Halo universe. But, having an unlimited amount of Spartans fighting each other is what I would call interactive entertainment, too.

Furthermore, what better way is there to introduce the MMO genre to legions of console gamers than to have Halo spearhead the effort.

Yes because infinity ward have a huge experience in making MMORPGs (same applies to bungie - unlikely)

Why would it be a crappy FPS? This is the 360 section not PS3.:p
Some people actually like FPS. A massive online one is always welcome.
I'd rather have a choice between 100 FPS titles and erm, erm, erm 1. Resistance which is slightly above mediocre if I'm being charitable.

If Lag was such a problem with Gears do you really think it would hit the dizzy heights it has? How many games are played over a year after it's release online each day?

Thats like me chucking Pro Evo PS3 edition and is massive slowdown problem into the equation...... it's unrelated, simple as that.
This game probably (if it exists) isn't even 10% developed (a bit like nimbus's brain) so passing idiotic pwnage comments is really rather puerile.

Its still on track for mid 08. There was an announcement a few weeks ago that Kevin Riepl would be doing the soundtrack. He is the guy that did Gears of War.

Has anyone ever tried PlanetSide? That's the only MMOFPS that I know of. Didn't hear too much about it, It looked interesting though.
