View Full Version : Weekly console sales rates in pretty graph format
Here we have a graph which clearly shows the weekly sales rates of the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 based on NPD sales data. As you can see, last month, the Xbox 360 console was the only console to outsell the Wii on a weekly basis just about since the start of the year.

Microsoft was the clear winner this month, with a nearly 53% jump in the Xbox 360's weekly sales rate, up from 69,200 systems per week in August to 105,600 systems per week in September. Compared to the flat sales period from March to July, when Microsoft was only moving around 41,000 systems per week, the rate in September represents an increase of over 150%. The Xbox 360 has sold better during only two months in its lifetime, November and December 2006, the traditionally rich Holiday period.
For its part, the Nintendo Wii held steady at 100,200 systems per week in September, having sold at a rate of 100,900 systems per week in August. September is the third consecutive month during which Wii sales have stayed above the 100,000 system per week level.
In September, Sony's PlayStation 3 was down for the second consecutive month to 23,900 systems per week, having peaked at right around 40,000 systems per week in July and dropped to 32,700 systems per week in August. You may recall that during April, May, and June of this year sales of the PlayStation 3 bottomed out around 20,000 systems per week.

This site is a 360 owners wet dream. Oh Oh the 360 outsold the Wii......................never mind the Wii has been out of stock in the UK in most retail outlets for a while. Not sure about other regions.
I love my 360 and PS3 but a bad game on the 360 and noone raises an eyebrow, a bad on on the ps3 and we have countless articles on how Sony is doomed.
About 100 dross games on the Wii and noone cares.
I thought news was supposed to be unbias?
Each week we hear the same mindless ramblings.

Because the chart on this page is for the US. Second the data that your talking about is a single week comparison. The 360 has been outselling the PS3 most of the year in Europe. The price drop and new 40GB model and around launch are the only times I remember the PS3 outselling the 360 this year. The new model and price drop should be good competition for the 360 but its too early to try to draw conclusions on whats going on based on a single week of data.

I look at that chart and I see the PS3 isnt doing bad at all.
Its doing way better than fanboys here would let you believe.
Considering the PS3 is exspensive, has few games and is very negatively portrayed by vocal peers, look at what it sold!
Deserves a medal IMO.

Any system will sell. Fans flock to their system of choice. So the fact that is has 5mil isnt bad, but there are always reasons behind systems being sold. I know two people that have ps3 and combined they own 1 game. THe other bought it as a blueray player. Im not hating on it I think the ps3 will sell a ton this christmas but I wont pick one up till theres a game I want right now its only Resistance. Seeing as how I dont care about mgs4 or ff13 I dont know when Ill get a ps3.

The worrying question is why are people buying it? For games? Or for its media capabilities?
You say it has few games, but there's plenty out there. And one would assume, if there's a percieved lack of titles, that those "top" titles would sell well.
But they're not. The attach rate on the PS3 is very, very poor and even exclusive AAA titles like Heavenly Sword have only sold 200k or so.
So yes, Sony are shifting a few machines, but they're not shifting games on the system which means it's becoming less attractive for developers as it's clear that a large percentage of those PS3 machines out there are sitting under the TV solely as a cheap blu-ray player.

Define Very Very Poor. You have any figures chump or are you just a smug 360 owner which has enjoyed a headstart on the console war as Microsoft killed the original Xbox.
So we have MS who killed a console for the sake of getting a headstart this generation..................and have yet to make a profit.
Nintendo who threw out last gen hardware which is beating the 360 in terms of sales and profit.
And you ***** about the ps3 attach rate. More blu ray sales cheaper ps3 gets. Cheaper unit, more sales, more games...........................
Not that intelligent are you?
Just having a bad day today. ANGRY ANGRY ANGRY
