hi im just new around here, how can i burn ps2 iso file so that i can play it in my unit?

Providing your PS2 is modded (swap disc or modchip, etc) anything should burn IMGBurn is prefered for backups though.

do i have to extract the PS2 iso file that i download, before i write it to the dvdr? please help me with this with a complete tutorial, it will be much appreciated. :)

1) Extract file (If you can't do this then the rest might be too challenging)
2) Open IMGBurn
3) Open image in IMGBurn
4) Insert Blank DVD
5) Burn at lowest speed possible
6) Open tray
7) If you need my help for the rest then you have probably gone wrong upto now

my os is vista basic and you just made it look so simple but does the os make different with the imgburn because i've downloaded a game from a website and then i unrar it and it came as an iso file and then i did exactly like you wrote step by step and then here i'm hoping for the dvd to work
and in big letters it tells me insert a playstation or a playstatin 2 format disc
and i just
don't know
what do you think could be the problem because honestly it looks like i will never be able to play a ps2 game that i downloaded from the internet

That would depend on if you have a PS2 or PStwo.
If you have a PS2, you can get a broadband adaptor and a HDD (and HD Loader) or use an exploit.
With either you have the option of a swap magic or modchip.

I use DVD Decrypter and it is a joke.

If you have a game you want to rip open DVD Decrypter then toss the PS2 game into your DVD drive. Choose the folder you want to rip the game to and then Mode->ISO->Read(I think that is the option). Then select the lower image to rip the game.

To burn the ISO just open DVD Decrypter and select Mode->ISO->Write. Then choose the ISO you want to burn by selecting the little folder and locating the ISO. Then choose your burn speed (I usually burn at 4x and I've never had a problem) and click the image in the bottom left to burn the ISO to the DVD.

Slimline is the PStwo, like the slimline PS1 was a PSone.
If you have good soldering skills then you could go for a modchip, but they generally about 21 wires and its the prefered method.
Or you could get a swap magic with the swap tools.

i've downloaded this from the internet SwapMagic DVD v3.6
and copied the image file into a dvd-r
but the playstatin doesn't take it what so ever.
Loading your own programs from USB Mass Storage Devices:
1. Rename your program to SWAPMAGIC.ELF
2. Create a folder named SWAPMAGIC in the root directory of your USB Mass Storage
Devices and then put the SWAPMAGIC.ELF file in the folder.
3. Plug-in the USB Mass Storage Device to the USB port of the PS2. And then boot your PS2
with SwapMagic3.6. If the program (SWAPMAGIC.ELF) is found in "../SWAPMAGIC/", it
will be launched automatically.

I don't mean to be a troll. But honestly do you expect legendofphil to help you all with these things that can be googled and have been answered a million times before?

all your questions can be answered with time and patience and GOOGLE.
Just have patience and keep reading, the answers are out there, and if it seems too daunting, keep reading and it will slowly sink in, or if it seems completely beyond comprehension (which ofcourse it can be) than go to a professional and get it modded.

Not railing on you guys, but these are all very common "Noob" questions which have answers out there which can easily be found.
