PMF Player for PSP Released

Eyesonme has released a PMF player for the Sony PSP. We heard about this release over at <a href="http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=3077" target="_blank">ps2dev.org</a> but unfortunately he has nowhere to upload it and the few links posted are corrupt, so anyone who does manage to get this one please upload it to the forum thread as an attachment!

使用方法：
只要将想看的动画改名后放到Movie目录下就可以看了
看完了按HOME退出就可以了

再次精简化，删掉一些不必要的文件，整合目录。
整个PMF Player容量不到2MB，非常小巧
可以连续播放3个PMF(0000.PMF, 0001.PMF, 0002.PMF)

其实将pmf动画放到任意游戏里替换掉游戏中的动画就能看，只不过比较麻烦

As far as I know the PSP SDK has not been leaked (yet).
"We" have a CodeWarrior Extension and the SDK header files. I don't think the encoding tools leaked but of course I could be wrong.

there are a few on the scene that have access to it. but im sure the outputed file leaves an internal signature of the developers key. which is why know one will releasse it. also some of them are using the dev tools on the job which have the sdk kit. now we just have to wait for some genius to write an encoder that mimics this pmf format.

I heard it had to be converted to .ls first and then pmf.

i have the psp sdk somewhere, i dld it when it first appeared a couple months ago, i'll check through my disks to see if i can find it. I'm pretty sure it the official release that poped up on the net way back. I'll keep yaz posted. :cool:

For some reason all the UMDs(sampler disc and my spiderman 2 UMD) dont have PMF in them instead its a .MPS. I guess this wont hurt sony after all :D

So the only benefit of the application is that I can watch in-game movies from any game with the .pmf extension or I can find software somewhere that will let me convert a avi file to .pmf instead of converting to mp4????
Really is there any point to this?
Is a .pmf converted movie that much better than a mp4?

Thanks for the links, I downloaded the files but cant get them to work.
I put them in the umd0 movies folder but nothing happens, I just get a blank black screen.
I tried renaming the files to smaller file names and even deleted one pmf file leaving one left in case there was an issue having 2 movies in one folder but no it didnt work either.
Any ideas?

I think you have to rename them like the original files wich was with the pmf player.
0000.PMF, 0001.PMF, 0002.PMF

But, yes theres still a but, whats the advantage over a mp4 file?
The quality seemed as good as a mp4 file, is it a file size thing with better compression on a pmf file?
If it is a size thing what do you use to convert a video file to pmf?
Otherwise I dont see the benefit.

Well, one thing is that they are true, native PSP resolution, so they should look better than a stretched MP4 file... I believe it's also AVC video, so you can better quality with less space.

PMF (Playstation Movie Format) are used in the game environment only... MPS files are used for UMD movies (these allow for subtitles, multiple audio tracks, etc...). UMD movies are also encrypted, so even if you could play back an MPS file, if you copy it off the UMD and try to play it, it won't work. (Kinda like DVD before DeCSS).

Does Codewarrior have any PMF encoding capabilites or do you require the (as yet publically) unleaked SDK?
