Just wait for VAST or any of the other upcoming Memorycard chips that are coming out.

I, like a lot of people believe VAST is bogus. If you don't want to physically mod your ps2 you need to "soft mod" aka exploit via ps1 disc. The easiest way to do this is to get codebreakers 8 or higher and a usb flashdrive. Create a game save using ps2 savebuilder or indepence exploit or what ever then use codebreakers to transfer it to the memory card via usb flash drive.
If you need any help there are plenty of tutorials around. If you get stuck or lost just let me know.
P.S. If you are trying to play "backup" games you should install a hard drive and use hdloader. Again there are tutorials out there but I'm more than happy to help.

First off I do not condone piracy. You can "download" games from your cdrom drive to your computer to transfer to the ps2 hard drive that's fine but downloading games from the internet is very illegal. I assume you were not speaking of the latter but I just wanted to clarify.
Here is what you need.
Network adapter:
You'll have to look around a little for this because there not produced anymore as far as I know. Amazon or EBay if nothing else they are about $25
Memory Card:
Anyone will work as long it is ps2 and not ps1
Hard Drive:
Try to avoid western digital they usually don't fit right. Check this list. But most drives will work.

Also you may want to get a usb/firewire hard drive enclosure or usb to ide connector so you can install your games with the computer. This is much faster and does not put the strain on your ps2 laser.
Once you have these things send me a PM and I can walk you through everything.
