Help needed

this question has probably been asked and answered a million times on this forum but my brain is slowly leaking out of my ears after all the tutorials on how to do what I want to do and its still not working so I figured I'd ask again.

I have an old style (fat) PS2 version 9 (SCPH-50003)

I have Ps2 Network adaptor

I have a Maxtor 40GB hdd formatted to PS2 formatted to ps2 standard using winhiip

I've fitted the hdd no problem its set to master etc

my problem starts when i try to use Hdloader or hd advance or even the ulaunchelf exploit

I've get in front of me half a dozen disks before cd and dvd that are basically shiney mirrors now as none of them load all I get when I try to run them is

"please insert a playstation or playstation format disk"

so I though ok I'll try the Mc exploit and get the exploit on via a usb memory stick (kingston 2gb)

I tried it only to discover that my PS2 won't see the stick or even launch from it. Its probably my fault and I'm probably doing something really stupid but I've tried all the create an exploit tutorials i can find and nothing changes I get the same msg

I've also downloaded all the copies of hdloader and hdadvance I can find and still nothing.

My PS2 isn't chipped or modded in anyway other than the addition of the network adaptor and hdd (I'm thinking of putting in a tri-light fan and modding the case but not until I get this working). I also don't want to have to use swap magic or the slide tool thing. All I'm after is being able to run my games from the Hdd as I'm sick of my games getting scratched etc and me having to go get new copies of them.

So any help at all would be gratefully appreciated

ok I've just managed to win a copy of "Action Replay Max" on ebay and its been sent out this morning will that allow me to get the exploit onto the memory card ?

That's what I used to do my exploit and it works fab!

and everything went swimmingly.

ok Ar Max turned up to day i've followed that tutorial been when it gets to the section to uncrush to memory card its letting me choose the file but its not letting me select the memory card as a target any ideas?

OK under the uncrush option I've actually got two files one is called

1. AR Max codelist ver. 639

the other is called

2. NEW_FILE and it has an odd symbol before the word new

if I select the first file it doesn't let me choose the memory card as a device if i choose the second it lets me uncrush but when I then restart the machine with the trigger disk in all that happens is that the game actually loads as normal

if i choose both files it doesn't let me choose the memory device as a target.

any ideas ?

make a new title.db replace it in the save file then try it again. I haven't looked but the 800 game title.db might be more US games.

its Ok i've fixed it I had entered BADATA-SYSTEM rather than BEDATA-SYSTEM but its all working now and the games are running
from the HDD :)
