got many questions, cause i tried many soft.
first at all, pspvideo9 is simply the best i think.

after few test with it, i got problems. Hope some of u will help me.

prob 1/

widescreen movies. Yes it's my first prob. why ? cause i can't keep the ratio. All my test have the same result : can't get aspect ratio kept. i don't have black line (as normaly) and my movie is fit to screen. (ppl are so high now in movies lol)

prob 2/

video resolution. the psp screen resolution is 480 x 272
why this resolution is not selectable ? and why we can't encode in this resolution ?

prob 3 (last)/

smooth videos. all my movies are smooth. dunno why i can't get on this psp "sharp" videos, like dvd or movies. think this prob is due to the psp videos resolution not at the real screen resolution (480 x 272)

wait from you some help to get better result. last precision : my MS is a 1GB, so i can make good encoding it's not a prob. i wait ur answers :)

1) Yeah I've had a beef with this for some time as well, I hate to watch stuff that is not in its original aspect ratio. I'm very sensitive to all sorts of stretching and I think it looks buttugly. The latest version of PSP Video 9 (v 1.62) claims to have "Added: 16:9 Anamorphic Support" which I have yet to try out. There are no notes about it in the readme though and I can't see it as an option anywhere, maybe it's applied automatically. I'm guessing it ads black bars to widescreen content wider than 1.85:1 but like I said, there is absolutely no documentation available on that newly added feature so there is no way to know except try it out.

2) Sony intentionally crippled video playback to memory stick so that it wouldn't be competing with their UMD movie releases, as well as the fact that Sony is also a big movie studio that doesn't want people ripping and pirating movies. Resolution was originally limited to 320x240 but then some people found out that it was possible to get slightly higher resolutions working although it locks the screen in full screen format.

3) Yeah, the videos look really washed out and have a lot of smearing and ghosting, mainly because the resolution is so much lower than the screen and thus the video has to be scaled to fit. The smearing and ghosting is a result of the PSP screens low refresh rate and this is made even worse when upscaling low resolution videos to fit the screen.

I sure hope things start moving faster for the people out there making homebrew video players for the PSP because I hate the video playback function of the PSP in its current state :(
