Rumor: Xbox 360 Core Discontinued, time to make way for the HDMI Core 360?

Internet rumors are stating that an e-mail has been sent to Gamestop store managers telling them to remove any promotional materials regarding the Xbox 360 Core as when their current stock is gone, there will be no more forthcoming. This goes hand-in-hand with the rumor posted yesterday that a new Core HDMI model is being prepared with a wireless controller and a 256MB memory card.

getting rid of the core is definately a nice move especially if the price permits but i think there backtracking a little only because they said they would offer different priced sku's give people more options. gonna have to wait and see what happens

i´m really fed up with the ps3 trolls that roam x360 threads. always the same thing: "ps3 rulez, xbotz this xbotz that bla bla bla bla". we get it you hate xbox360 and anything related. I own both and enjoy both and don't care about console wars at all, so its really anoying seeing people like you that can only see one side of the picture.

back to topic,

i think this is a good move by microsoft, the original core was laking in features but with the inclusion of the wireless controller, the hdmi and the memory unit, this is looking really good for people like myself that dont care particularly about the hdmi but want to have the updated configuration. I might sell my xbox360 and buy this and keep my hard drive. Ill have to put some money but its a way for people to update without spending big bucks.

well, my comment is like this.

hdmi was released in 2003/2004, since the xbox360 does not even use hdmi 1.3, then they could of put hdmi ports in the xbox360 from the beginning. period.
xbox360 came out in late 2005, two years after hdmi was released.

nothing against the xbox360, just seems it was rushed and now they are playing catchup to what was already laid out by entertainment industry.

maybe they will release another sku to support dolby HD and the newer formats and 7.1 audio.

but why even come out with a new core thou, its kinda stupid, since now MMO are allowed to require the HDD, it will just cost customers in the end having to upgrade. Give the customers a break on the SKUs plz.

even the sony PS3 20gb was stupid to come out with, but i mean even those units didn't hinder anything that the 60gb could do for game play or blu-ray playback. but i still think it was a stupid move.

the thing with ps3 is that you can put any hdd (2.5') you want in it, so you're not limited to what sony is offering you, so 20GB model was cool imo, and so will be 40gb ver.
about the hdmi, it's sad that 360 only has 1.2a (if memory serves me correctly) but then again, 1.3 is only needed for uncompressed sound and 7.1 which 360 doesn't support anyway (sadly).

Finally, MS gets rid of this trash SKU. I might consider buying the Core if it comes with wireless controllers and a memory card. I can buy a 360 20 gig on ebay for cheap.

If they finally package core with a memory card, and wireless controller it might not be nearly as bad of a purchase. Right now the core is a complete waste of money, I wish they never created the package...

As for the topic at hand, just kill the core and let it lie, no need for an all new one. Microsoft really needs to let developers make games with the hard drive in mind.

kidman64: there is more to hdmi 1.3 than alot of people think. deep color being a big one.

now i can understand microsoft not having hdmi 1.3 support from the beginning, the console was rushed out before hdmi 1.3 came to be but hdmi 1.2 they could of had before xbox360 got released so they could of put it in there just didn't plan for it i guess. along with hd-dvd and some other things they never planned for.

You seem to do nothing but provoke the smart ass's that post frequently on this site, rarely have i seen you post something thats contributing to the topic at hand. I've seen you rip on the smart ass's, throw out threats, and show off a bit of a fanboy style temper... but nothing really more...

I remember a time before when we had Nimbus and the likes of them, fanboys through and through... sometimes annoying, but at least they contributed something intellectual every once and a while. Now that they've stopped posting/ gotten banned.... things seem to have just gone down hill.

New posters have become more biased and less picky with their words (many times filled with errors of careless posting).

Flame bait posts that quickly boil down to worn out insults to the other sides console, sometimes they stay with the problems at present but rarely so.

The regulars that contribute nothing and seem to only want to up their number of posts and bring provoke fan boys.
