Statistics from the UK's official company ChartTrack indicate that the sales totals for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the UK are very close to one another. Both systems were near identical in terms of sales figures for the first 38 weeks of the year, although 55 percent of the PS3 sales came in the first month of its launch. The director of ChartTrack has indicated that with the launch of the Xbox 360 Elite and the 360 price drop, the Xbox 360 is right not outselling the PS3 week on week and it is only going to get better.

Xbox 360 enjoyed a 12-week headstart on PS3 before it was launched on March 23rd, but both systems have near identical sales figures for the first 38 weeks of the year.

However, 55 per cent of all PS3 sales came in the first four weeks after the console’s launch date.

Xbox 360 is still benefiting from its price drop and the introduction of the Elite model last month, when it enjoyed a 260 per cent jump in sales. Since then (week 34), it has consistently sold more units than PS3 week-on-week.

ChartTrack director Dorian Bloch believes that the price of Sony’s machine and lack of killer app software will see Microsoft’s format pull ahead in the closing months of 2007.

“Prior to week 34, it’s fair to say that Xbox 360 sales were verging on the unimpressive,” he told MCV. “But since Elite was released and the 360 price drop has kicked in, Xbox is outselling PS3 week-on-week.

“The consoles are at different stages of their lifecycles, and long-term the sales balance could easily shift. But unless a PS3 price cut comes in – and after Tokyo Games show it looks unlikely – it’s difficult to see the 360 not selling more by the end of the year.

“It had Halo 3 arriving this week, is cheaper and has a raft of software after being on the market for over two years. PS3 is still in its relative infacy.”

I think you mean the other way round, what with all the disc errors and RROD's.

I think it would be foolish to assume that Sony doesn't have any announcements planned between now and Christmas that might affect sales.

The report said 360 sales before the Elite were crap, so...it took a new hardware model and anticipation for Halo3 to push sales up. Sales for this month will also post nice gains due to Halo3...but I can't imagine MS having any bigger tricks up their sleeve.

When pigs fly.

Yes microsoft will release a finished product , which wont either crash constantly ,burn ur house down or leave you with a brick.

Gotta love the fanbots for ms products , do you all get out in the streets everytime they reissue a fix or product update.

xbox360 is already looking like a microsoft OS , first release fucked , second release fixed slightly then eventually a service/product update that fixes all the problems hopefully.

Damn i wish to god sega still made consoles, maybe MS could learn about designing and producing a quality piece of hardware.

They perhaps forget that the Ps3 in Europe cost 600€ and that therefore to parity of console sold, the Ps3 is in advantage because it is very more difficulty to purchase a console what cost more.

you can spin the numbers any-which-way you choose, but that fact right there shows how badly the ps3 is currently doing in the UK. in fact, i wouldn't even have dreamed it could be doing that poorly almost a year from launch.

sony needs a bona fide killer app for the ps3 more desperatly than george w bush needs to find osama bin laden.
