MS: If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?

Microsoft's Shane Kim has implied that by the end of this financial year is when Xbox will finally turn a profit. Kim was quizzed by the BBC regarding the profitibality of its Xbox 360 adventure and Kim suggested that MS hopes to make a profit this financial year by posing the question of "If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?"


"Halo 3 has become a pop-culture phenomenon," said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, in a statement.

Microsoft needs Halo 3 to boost sales of the Xbox 360; despite investing billions of dollars into the Xbox project it has yet to see any meaningful profitable return.

"It's far too early to say what the financial return will be for our investment," Mr Kim told the BBC News website last month.

Microsoft hopes to make a profit on its Xbox in this financial year.

"If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?" said Mr Kim.

No one believes that Microsoft is making money this year on the 360. They m ay have made a profit in 08 if they didnt have all the failures. Now they are looking at 2010 or beyond, but they have to keep supporting the 360 if they EVER want to make a profit.

They WILL make a profit this year, because they have ZERO repair expenses this year. Remember that 1 billion writeoff they made for repairs? That was for future repairs. It was for 2007 repairs, but the money was taken from the 2006 budget. It was allocated in advance for the sole reason of being able to report a profit.

The 360 was supposed to take 3-4 years to be profitable anyway, and with all the unexpected losses of replacements and sub-contracting for repairs, they are making money on the 360 this year? Maybe if you combine their subsidiary software sales with the console sales you'd get a decent number. On the console itself, they are facing HUGE losses every year for the next 4-5.

You keep saying after X title then theres nothing coming for 360, low and behold another 1 comes then it's well after this THEN you have nothing.
Truth of the matter is we have class titles aplenty and you still have jack sh@t.

If something on 360 is good then reviewers are bias or bribed. If something is marked down on PS3 then what do you know? the reviewer is bias or bribed. Face it you have virtually nowt to justify your faith in the mighty Sony.

I'd rather of had and be playing all these top scoring games than be sat their bated breath preying that theres not another canceled/delayed game on the horizon. OR the games that you pinned your hopes on turn out to be cack or if multi format better on the 360.

They were about to make a profit but the warranty screwed it up. It doesn't really matter since MS hemerages cash, so they don't have to turn a profit any time soon. They already said they are making another xbox no matter what so no one should be worried.
