According to KCTV, a Kansas teenager strangled his little sister after she interrupted him while he was playing BioShock. The teenager reportedly strangled his sister 'accidentally' after feeling as if he really was in the game. The boy's parents felt that the FPS title had influenced his behaviour but implied that 2K Games are not to blame as the boy was old enough to purchase the game himself. As you'd expect, Jack Thompson has stated that "Justice will be served to the bastards to the bastards that caused this crime." *UPDATED* 2K Games has got in touch to let us know that a journalist called up the KCTV news desk who relayed that there was NO such story in circulation and internet sources have just made it up.

Videogames are often criticised for negatively influencing the behaviour of their players, and the latest report from KCTV, telling the story of a Kansas teenager who strangled his little sister after she interrupted him while he was playing 2K Games' Xbox 360 masterpiece, Bioshock, isn’t going to help the cause.

“I get really into my games and when Brit’ came over to me to watch TV I forgot I was in a game and accidentally strangled her,” Sean Conner told KCTV yesterday.

The boy's parents admitted that they felt that the futuristic first-person shooter (which includes gameplay where mutated little girls are killed to gain powerups) had influenced his behaviour, but that they were not to blame because he was old enough to purchase it himself.

Violent videogame-hating attorney Jack Thompson has since released an ominous statement in which he says that “Justice will be served to the bastards that caused this crime.”

In this country there is no such thing as personal responsibility, no matter what you do there is always a "Jack Thompson" in your corner.

How do you "Accidently" Strangle someone? "WOOPS! I'm Sorry! I Thought she was Strogg, Disguised as My SIS!"

There are Obviously Other Issues with this person for him to think HE was IN the Game.

Blame the kid and his parents for his action not the game.

Also I can not find anything about this on KCTV website, so did this actual happen or is the internet bull$hit? I have submitted a request to KCTV for more info in regards to this incident.

Anyone have a link to anything about this in Kansas City. I have searched channel 9, channel 5, and channel 41 and none have anything online about this. I watched channel 5 (kctv) last night and didnt see the story. The big stories here last night and today were the Billy Joel ticket scandal, a couple kids hurt riding go carts and a group of teenagers that went to New York to sing the Oreo cookie jingle.

Did the girl die or what? If the kid just strangled her then he could have been influenced by the game, just as kids performing wrestling moves are influenced by the WWE, or kids who watch war movies are influenced to join the army.

If she did die then I don't think a game can influence a person to take someone's life, that sort of mental brainwashing is just not possible over the span of a gaming session.

Whoever posted this on Maxconsole really needs to work on their reading comprehension skills. The article says that the parents don't feel like "they" should be blamed (they meaning the parents). When the 4th grade skilled "writers" at maxconsole did their best to recap the article somehow they managed to think that the parents were saying that 2K games shouldn't be responsible. That's not what the parents were saying at all.

Yet another example of poorly written, unverified, half assed "reporting" done by maxconsole.

Uh, he was a teenager. Jesus, parents want to blame anyone these days. I am a 35 yr old gamer and when I play with my 2 year old I make sure he knows its fake, not real.

Honestly though, my kid also loves power rangers. Sit through an episode of that, you have to do your job as a parent.

Wait a minute...

(KCTV) - Troubled teenager Sean Conner is on trial in Kansas for attempting to strangle his younger sister, Britney.

Why would a teenager be on trial? Especially for attempting to strangle his sister.

However, in his defense plea, he mentioned the controversial videogame Bioshock (Xbox 360) as having influenced his criminal act.

Huh? Why didnt he set his hand on fire and incinerate her? There is no strangling in this game.

“I get really into my games and when Brit’ came over to me to watch TV I forgot I was in a game and accidentally strangled her,” Sean Conner told KCTV yesterday.

This says he actually strangles her which conflicts the first line. If he was on trial he would not be talking to anyone and If he was a teenager, child services would be involved.

Bullshit story

My significant other interrupted my Warhawk session, so I accidentally slit their throat, then accidentally cut off their head, then accidentally tried to hide the evidence with a hacksaw and a gallon of bleach, then I accidentally buried the bones in Utah!

And who caused this strangulation? Something tells me that I won't agree with Jack's answer.

forgive me if im wrong but, isnt bioshock an 18 and although it doesnt say his age its sounds like he wasnt 18/ maturity of an 18 year old, so the parents should be at blame for him playing it!

I can't find it either. I did a search on the KCTV website, but nothing turned up for "Bioshock". There were plenty of stories that popped up for "strangle" but none of them were related. This may be a hoax.
