View Full Version : Halo 3 in Japanese store sellout shocker
A video game journalist reports at his shock that Halo 3 was all sold out at his local Japanese games store. As you will see from the following pictures, the white cards with the blue writing indicate that a product is all sold out. It will be interesting to see the Media Create sales figures to see if Halo 3 can help raise up interest for the Xbox 360 in Japan.

See those little white cards with blue writing on those Halo 3 copies? That means "sold out." You can check the copy of Fatal Inertia below it with red writing. That game, sadly, is not sold out. (Sorry Koei!) I actually was so not expecting this that it did not dawn on me that I should've asked the clerk how many copies were sold until I was driving home. Unwilling to admit defeat (c'mon this is Halo 3 in Japan!), I stopped by another totally tubular shop, which had Halo 3 copies coming out the whazoo. It even had imported versions! The store, though, didn't take credit cards, I didn't have cash, so fuckles.
So, proof positive that Halo 3 sold out in at least one store. In Japan, even. Congrats Microsoft!

Probably a couple. I doubt they allocated a ton of copies to Japan. There ARE half a million (nearly) 360's there, so if they are all buying copies (probably)..

The store I work at (in Canada) is no where -near- selling out of Halo 3. Why? Because we had over 300 copies of it (basic edition) for launch. A lot of other bigger stores in my city had over 2,000. So I am assuming in Japan, where demand may not have been very high in the first place, they probably didn't ship over all TOO many copies. While I think It is great Halo 3 is selling in Japan, I think it's probably time people stopped getting their hopes up for the 360 to make any sort of dent in the country... maybe, but I doubt it.

so why do they mention the price on the label, they must really love relabeling all their stock...
you would have thought they would have just put a display card saying Halo3 out of stock instead of labeling all there display cases... I also spotted it was cheaper than the other games on display anyway...
dont suppose they ordered many in anyway, its not like many people own a 360 in Japan... what would be funny if you could only buy it if you pay a deposit and wait for them to get it in for you, and the label really said "Special Order Only" :p

Need to know how, many copies they really sold.
And just because the x360 it's not selling well, it doesn't mean that they are not selling any, just as with the PS3 around the world, it's selling but not so great...

They keep the real copies in the back. If they want to change their price, they just update them on the display copies. They have three display cases there just to make it more visible to shoppers. Honestly, this is no different than how Gamestop does it. The only difference is that in a Japanese store, the display case usually has a little plastic pouch...it's the one that has the "sold out" card on it in the picture. The "sold out" card is basically taped to the back, and if there had been stock, there'd have been cards in front of it that you can take out.
You'd take one of the cards to the counter, and they'd bring out a copy of the game for you. That way, they don't have to actually put up "out of stock" signs.. the "sold out" just gets revealed after someone takes the last card.

It doesn't seem like Halo 3 is really pushing the 360 at all. Gears seems like it did much more in that regard. Halo3 is probably stronger, in terms of game design, though. Either way, I think we have to realize that this is the best sales the 360 will see on any game, ever again. With the possible exception of Halo4.

Why don't they just give the journalists name from Kotaku? I could see if this was on multiple sites but if it is from Kotaku and only there when it is this specific, just list it jeez...
