View Full Version : MS: Surprisingly large proportions of new gamers are buying the Xbox 360 Elite
Microsoft's Neil Thompson has revealed some surprise that a large proportion of Elite 360 buyers are purchasing the new model as new customers and have no previous Xbox 360 ownership. According to internal data, Thompson remarks that it has gone 'very very very well' and commented that the trend is the same in the US. However, he was a bit puzzled as to why this was the case, guessing that people perceive it to be more future proof or just like it because it comes in Black.
"It's gone very, very, very well. Our data is saying so far that a lot of people buying it are new to the platform."
"It was interesting to us, because we thought that a lot of people who came to the platform early would have chosen the Elite, but a lot of the data we're getting out of store visits, etc, is showing it's new people, which is fantastic."
Thompson added that he wasn't sure what the overriding reason for that was, but felt it was vindication for Microsoft's plan to offer differing price points for its hardware.
"I don't know if that's because it's got great memory capacity and people are anticipating Marketplace and those sort of technologies, or whether they just like black. I don't know."
"But certainly here and what we've seen in the US there's a very strong trend to the Elite being a major proportion of the overall mix of consoles that we sell."

Exactly, that's why I got mine yesterday (with Hitachi driver). I never read anything about someone getting rrod with the "new" cooling system. Of course their is some videos on Youtube but videos are just videos.

Yes with 1 in 4 in america being retarded this is possibly true.
I've actually been holding out buying on because I wasn't sure if it suffered from the rrod, as most people who report having problems don't usually have the elite. I guess I might take my chances with the elite. Does anyone know the rrod % for the elite systems?

1- because of HDMI.
2-3 years free warranty(plays big part in assuring gamers to buy the defective console).
3-delays of ps3 big hitters.
future proof !! you must be fukin joiking Right
like was said, people think it's had the faults designed out - wrong but that's what they think.
i'v seen one fail.
in europe btw, your entitled to 3 years warranty by law on all of them - regardless of microsoft's screwed legal beliefs.
as a side note, a friend of mine who flashes them has a nice fix - he puts the left-fan upto full speed and they never get hot or fail afterwards.
but it's only good if you do it before it fails - it wont help a dead one obviously.

I got a Xbox 360 Elite for bedroom i think there better just for £50 more.
The reason i got one is bigger HDD and HDMI so i was happy to pay a bit more.
Also really happy i got one my premium console got the RoD just 3 days after getting my elite.

It's the HDMI port, obviously. The port MS was poo-pooing before.
Read your own sales data, foos.
Actually if the Core unit really starts shipping soon with hdmi & newer processor I wouldn't mind picking one of them up to replace my recent premium doorstop. I really don't need all the accessories again, although the 120gb hd would be nice, not needed at this time. With all the issues with the console they should just offer a barebones model with zero accessories.

Agreed. I too plan to buy one when I can get either a premium or core with the HDMI and without the self destruct codes. I have no need for a 120 gig on a 360 that I buy, because I don't plan to abuse their XBL "give us money" system.
