It doesn't really matter, altho I'd suggest getting an american 1.5, since they are newer models (minor hardware changes). If you are coming to america for vacation I suggest picking one up and making sure its a 1.5 (no letter or an A on the bar code, if theres a B stay away!).

If you live in europe you should consider that Japan has the same region code as europe. This means UMD videos you buy in europe will only run on a EU or JAP PSP, not in US PSPs.
Games are not region coded and should run on any PSP.

Afaik the JAP ones use Sharp Displays and the US ones use Samsung displays. There`s a comparison somewhere and the sharp is much, much better. The Samsung display has washed out colors compared to the sharp one.
The only disadvantage of the JAP one is that it can`t play US video UMD`s.
For us europeans the JAP is the way to go anyways since Japan has the same region code on movies. The Euro PSP will launch soon but i have no idea about the display used on that one.

The Sharp vs. Samsung screen change was pretty much proven to be a ploy for people to sell more Japanese machines on eBay. Besides, the comparison that came out on the net was not a comparison of two PSPs, but two HDTVs which immidiately made this comparison completely useless and based on nothing.
As far as I know the screens in the JP and US machines are identical and even if they had switched screen manufacturers and one screen was indeed better than the other then all the JP machines would also sport that screen by now.

Only main difference is your accept key on JAP and USA, JAP uses O while USA uses X.

Also, some older JAP units have the SQUARE button stickeness/non-responsive issue.

Region coding is another factor, I for one see this a a rip off as they selling PSP video's at more cost then DVD with Extra's. So I just use my JAP and rip my own DVD's and watch them.

As for comparison of screeen resolution, this is just as debatable as my TV picture is better then yours. If you setup properly images will look awesome but if not they look crappy. Unfortunitly the PSP does not have any adjustments for sharpness, contrast etc....which in my opinion would be a great asset. And liek mentioned about comparisson was between HDTV( aka different screen altogether )

If the image quality is the same just pick the one you can get hold of a 1.50. ;)
