new to the wii and looking into buying one and correct me if i might be wrong but all but the D2C are moddable? It the wiikey the best chip out there? I see tons of ppl using it.
which serial # do i want to avoid going above or the range i want to stay in?

OK, you are right about the D2C being unmoddable. There is a rumour going round that it is moddable but personally i dont think this is true yet.
There is no right or wrong mod chip and it depends who you speak to. Do your research and make your own mind up.
Use this for the serial but they arent on the box they are only on the actual Wii. - http://nintendo-scene.com/wiitracker/search.php
People say it is inaccurate but it was 100% correct for mine.

ty for the info I have found a used unit at a gamestop out by me with
#LU304023293 and tracker says GC2-DMS. so i can mod this system.

last question for everyone, I'm going to use one of the opensource mods and was wondering which is kept up to date more often. I know of 2 so far i have seen

Wiifree is the popular one I havent heard much about yaosm.

From what I've heard yaosm is one of the best out there, commercial or open source. I personally haven't heard much about Wiifree. I suggest you look at the features, do your homework.
