Good day,

sorry to start a new thread but having seen many thread all about the same subject i didnt find a central post to write in so made my own.

I have had a PAL wii for some time it has a wii key (original) and everything worked fine when playing backups it was also easy to solder i used wires install.

I have never had a reading problem with any burnt backup and life was good.

I turned my wii on today and it wont read anything. It was on version 2.2 so i updated the firmware via the internet and am now on v3e and it still wont read any disks. (i spent some 5 hours reburning/trying everything to get it to read disks under 2.2 - i also opened the box up and checked the mod install with a meter and everything looks fine)

So im happy my wii is fine. Im happy my media works fine as it has done for the last 6 months of daily use.

Something has stopped it working also when i updated version 3 and ran the updater again it said was i sure i wanted to install anymore updates as some updates may stop hardware modifiied wiis from working properly. So i didnt update it beyond version 3e.

OK i said - i will check to see if firmware on my wii key has been updated and it has its now on 1.9b so i got that burnt it but i cant update the firmware as it wont read the dvd (or any dvd).

all originals play fine.

i think i need to go back some firmware versions for my wii is there a way to do this?

So - what do i do :)

any ideas?

[07.08.08] Wii firmware 3.0 issues

Nintendo has released firmware 3.0 via online updates. It will NOT brick or disable Wiikey; however, base and config discs will not load 'natively', neither will any other GC disc with El Torito standard header format. WiiNewz have reported that there are already tools available for building bootable config and setup discs, as well as other discs with applications and emulators. We are currently researching why the El Torito format no longer works. Once this is completed new versions of the config and base system disc will be made available.

you run the wiikey update disc after gcos.
Also please read up on media (verbatim, tdk, ... DVD-R (MINUS r), burning speed (4x or 8x) and burners. Could also be your chip died..

Thanks for the info.

it seems odd that suddenly no backups will work but have done since day 1 of me chipping and through various firmware updates. My last resort was to update to version 3 and that didnt change anything.

Would the new firmware in a Wii affect the ability to read any of my backups that all previously worked 100%

I ordered a new wii key today lets see if that will work
