slimline with hdd adapter?

HI.

I was wondering i have a idea for gettin a nice modded slimline ps2, youve probly heard it b4 from other pepes, but does the ps2 work without a dvd rom? because im only gonna use the hdd, and im thinking about adding it where the dvd rom used to go. I have a dms4 ezi pro laying around from my last dead ps2

yeah i sorta relized that, now im trying to see if i can give life to one of my 4 chubby ps2's lol, they all have various problems two have toasted dvd mobo's,one wont save any time/date lol, the last one was dropped. and wont turn on, im pretty sure ill get one togeather though lol
