Hmm just being thinking about the upcoming UK PSP release doesn't it make more probable that the system will run at 50Hz
My thinking is thus PSP memorystick playback is for home movies made with camcorders UK one are 25fps and if anyone knows if you try to look at a 25fps film converted to 30fps there will nearly always be audio syncronisation issues :(
Plus it got me thinking about the law suit against LIK-SANG as they are acussing them of false advertising. Is this in relation to JAP PSPs being able to play UK region 2 UMDs?? 30fps V's 25 or 24fps. Or are all UMD movies 24Fps??
What you all think?

50hz refers to the frequency of pal tvs. An lcd is just about always fixed at 60hz regardless of region. The umd movies I'm sure are just 26fps (standard dvd) regardless of your region, then just encoded for your region. The games are not encoded. The 3gp format is also one steady frame rate. Don't worry about your region being a problem.

Erm..... kind off the problem is pal camcorders i've tried converting it with the current conversion software and it's very poor running at 30fps or 15fps.
I know you can demux and time strech the audio, but thats slightly above the average UK user who wants to put thier home movies on their PSP.
DVD/Cinema is 24fps, PAL is 25 fps/50Hz and NTSC is 30fps/60Hz The only other way round this problem is to supply a 100Hz LCD. I just don't belive that they can release a 60Hz system that plays media in the UK.

I believe that PAL/50Hz is not an issue with the PSP, simply because the PSP does not connect to a TV.

Ah but UK camcorders record in PAL thus the movies made on them then transfered to the PSP will run like **** that includes any converted TV programs.
I'll put it like this if the US version came with a 50Hz screen then all your memory stick films from US domestic camcorders and TV recordings would all be out of sync.
It just seems really odd if the UK system is 60Hz

The issue you're describing is with the encoding of the movie, not the decoding (playback) with the PSP.
There's no 50Hz or 60Hz with the PSP.
If you re-encode a 25 FPS movie to 30 FPS, you are going to get audio desyncronisation regardless. This is because you can't generate audio data out of nowhere for the extra 5 frames.

So you mean that the decoding of the 25fps movies will be done inside the PSP firmware as it appears that the JAP and US PSP's aren't capable of running 24 or 25 fps video files from the memory stick or there doesn't apear to be any PSP movie encoders that have an option to convert to MP4 movies at 24 or 25fps.
Does anyone know the problem there?

Asphalter is right, there is no reason for the PSP hardware to be any different in PAL regions.
I also must point out that while film is 24fps, DVD is not. Progressive scan encoded DVDs run at 24fps when running from a progressive source on progressive equipment, but DVD is not inheretly 24fps.

So is it just a problem with the current encoders that tie encoding to 30 fps or 15 fps or is it the PSP hardware or firmware that prevents 24fps or 25fps running on the US and JAP PSP. I just think it may be interesting to see what fps will be allowed?? to run or be encoded for UK PSP because 30 fps is pretty usless in the UK. Hmmmm.
If anyone can point me to a source that shows how to run 24 or 25 fps (not after converting to 15 or 30 fps) movies from memory stick on a US or JAP PSP i'll bugger off and study some more :)
