should i mod before i download a version upgrade?

as the title says basically i finally got my wii to connect to the internet. and it wont let me use any of the online stuff until i upgrade. if i do upgrade to version 3e before i get it chipped will it make a difference? or should i wait?

don't worry about it. Run the update. Has has virtually nothing to do with mod chips.
