How to check Wii serial number?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to buy a JAP Wii from a seller on ebay.

In order to avoid getting an unmoddable Wii im going to ask him to give me the serial number - This can determine, yeah?

Where abouts is the serial number located? Is it on the Wii box or only on the console itself?
