View Full Version : G6 and M3 seem to have some firm release dates now...

News updated on 2 sites, pretty much the same info on both sites, with more attempts at hyping their own product and spitting other products (which, by the bye, are already being sold and are not in the '3 weeks away' syndrome G6/M3 seem to be suffering).
M3 site link (http://www.m3adapter.com/main.htm)
M3 (nds version, no info on whether SD and CF will be out at the same time) is due to be released Aug 30. Gotta love their comparison chart to the SupXX CXrd (SuperCard), as 1/2 of it is completely proven to be BS already with the release of the NDS kernel. Seems they still have a beef with romman using their origional gbaMP engine/kernel, even though he has stated more than once he no intent to rip and use their "new and improved" crystal engine for SuperCard products. (and totally excluding the fact that both M3 and SC products ripped from nintendo's bios and proprietary/copyrighted cartridge hardware by reversing the software)
G6 site link (http://www.g6flash.com/news.htm)
G6 (no mention of which sizes are to be first produced) is due to be released Aug 26.
Long words short: out in about 3 weeks (as anyone who has gotten any response from either of them regarding time to market has been told)

That's great news, hopefully they'll make their way to the UK soon after ...

So which one is better? M3 or G6?
M3 must be cheaper right? Since you'll have to buy a CF card yourself to make it work. I like the idea of puting CF cards in there, since they're really cheap (1gb for 55 euro's or something).
And does anyone know if they both include a passme thingie?

Whichever you prefer I guess, M3 and G6 are being made by the same people as far as I can tell. (the ones who did the origional CF GBA movie player)
M3 will stick out lots, G6 won't. Likely the NDS versions of these two carts will have their version of the passme, or at least an inexpensive addon when you order their carts.
Just to ballpark it, my guess is that the M3 will be between 60 and 100 USD w/o any cf/sd medium (kinda depends also on if they sell it in "kits" that include a passme) and the G6 (which will be coming in a few sizes) 4gigabit cart will be around 200-270USD. Not much longer though and they will tell us what they want for them.

The Estimated retail price of G6 Flash 3rd generation 1G is around USD140-150 range , for 2G is around USD 160-175 range , for 4G is around 200-220 range . The retail price of Prices of PassKey around USD15 .

I emailed M3 a couple questions the other day and they got back to me with this info in case anyone is interested:
what I asked: - Will the SD version stick out less?
- Has price point (MSRP - suggested retail price) been determined for the SD
and CF versions, as well as the passkey?
- Will M3's passkey be different than passme, and require a separate
purchase at time of ordering M3? And for that matter will FlashMe be
sufficient?
- Have retailers been established for North America, or would I need to
order from a China site?
and the response:Thanks for your concern about our products.
-Yes.
-Different places have different prices. The estimated retail price of M3 perfect
SD version is around USD 88-96 range, and M3 perfect -CF version is around USD
80-88 range .
-We will have our agents in every country and district, and you can contact our
agents for purchasing our products.
-We will inform you after our products have been put out formally.
-M3 is used with Passkey, and Passkey has added one function than PassMe.
RegardsSo it would seem that the SD version is in fact smaller, and that the PassKey is NOT identical to the Passme (and likely has no chance of working with the flashme so you will have one heck of a stick out factor with the CF version of this) which means you will also likely have to buy their PassKey to use this hardware on the DS.

I think both are delayed but only by a week or two.
G6 is due 10th of September, M3 has no date but it available for preorder on Divineo.
Detail on the M3 have been appearing on Chinese websites at the moment, the passme looks very sexy with a fold down design.

Very cool, could you answer two quick questions?
How do NDS saves work and does it support clean unpatched NDS ROMs like it says?
Thank you.

No doubt, if you have it is it living up to the g6/m3 claims so far?
hrtlnd

Well, At the moment, it doesnt do what it claim it does, clean dump support being one of those things! The save system (I think) is a selection of about 10 save slots, then you add the game and it gets programmed to a save slot. Then when you save the game, its saved to for example gamesave.3 then you just backup gamesave.3 along with your game. I don't know fully, the only game ive tried is Zoo Keeper, because it came on the cart!
Im putting an episode of family guy on to test the movie player, but that should really be working anyway.
public knowledge that G6 supports a format of NDS rom called DoFAT. It also supposedly supports GST, but I've had no luck with that. Early days though, hopefully it will do a lot more in the next firmware update!

First impressions:
Pro's:
- Very small passkey, lightweight, great quality
- Easy to understand/use interface
- Fast file transfer from PC to Cart
- Runs 512MB roms and even larger with no real hassle
- Supports MP3, PDA functions, Movies, Games
Cons:
- Does not run unpatched clean dump roms YET, it will be able to do this in the very near future ( give it 2 more weeks, it's still in dev-test phase )
- Nothing else to be negative about right now

09-07-2005, 03:06 PM
Thanks for the mini review, Social-Zero! Sounds Awesome! I heard that the Passkey wasn't needed for commercial game if Flashme was done... any chance you might give it a try?
Social-Zero
09-07-2005, 03:12 PM
I emailed them about it and got the answer that it was no problem for homebrew but that it needs the passkey for commercial roms no matter what.
The passkey is really light and small though , it doesn't hinder when you play.
The G6 Flash 1G is going for about 179 dollars/euro's and the 2G should be like 200...
check the store sites in this thread :)

Do normal NDS Roms work fine, without they need to be patched?
Social-Zero

The pictures work fine...
Support for unpatched clean rom dumps is coming in a few weeks. The software is still in development.
Right now it runs special patched roms from the G6 people which boot in a second.
It also runs all roms from the GST team that boot in a few seconds

Last thing I'm gonna say about this until I get a chance to test it all better and get new software from the G6 team
Currently, (meaning at this very moment) only roms from the GST work and special patched roms by G6 called DoFat editions. These DoFat editions boot super quickly and are not publicly available right now.
In the very near future, clean rom dumps will boot flawlessly too. They just need a little bit more time to finish the software for this.

Boy oh boy I hope MK2 will play DS games off of the SD card. If it does then SCREW G6! So what if loading up a game might take a minute or two. MK2 will cost way less and hold many more games! If I am wrong about this please someone inform me so I can look like a fool. :)

Sorry ill rephrase you missed the point!
I tried a multiplayer game which features single game pak download play. (as in only one person needs the game to play multiplayer) with G6. The game in G6 plays, but the DS whether it is flashed with flashme or not, cannot connect to the DS which has the G6 cart inside to play multiplayer.
Games which require a game pak each though, for example Metroid Hunters First Hunt demo, do talk to other DS with the original game pak. I can't test though if it communicates with another G6 cart, since I only have one G6 cart.. But ive got 2 DS'.

I tried a single cart wireless game with the G6Flash
Sent data, it showed up in download & play on the other DS
Then it downloaded it, started it, and froze ! Just like homebrew games
freeze without a passme or a hacked firmware version

09-08-2005, 02:58 PM
yeah, like i said. it doesnt work..
if you use flashme, it goes to a white screen, if you dont it freezes on the nintendo logo.
Do any photos exist of the M3 SD version? Is that one smaller than the CF version (of which I could only find any photos so far) and does it stick out less?

About the game saves?
What is the issue with this ?
Do u require a DS game with a save option? (any or a special one?)
Or can u you use the Instant SAVE option in the card?
So lets say i am playing nintendogs and i press example L R A B SELECT then the games save instantly and then the next time i play nintendogs again i can simply get the save state back with the same buttons?
Thnx in advance!

That doesn't seem implented yet if that's a promised feature.
You just save in the game like you would normally, only difference is when you get a Nintendo DS rom that says GBA save, it's much better since you can backup that save and share it around with your friends, the NDS save doesn't let you do that.
At the moment I am having issues with saves though. Somehow my saves are being removed every day. It's like I play during the day, all is fine and after a while they just disappear and it looks like i haven't saved anything.
Really strange, I sent a bug report bout this or maybe I'm doing something wrong, I don't know
Social-Zero

After testing the saving some more I have managed to understand how it works now
When you play a Nintendo DS game, you should just play and then save in game, after that you turn off the Nintendo DS. Then turn on the Nintendo DS again and select Save Backup, and pick a slot where it will then backup the game save to the slot. And then you can just select that slot when you launch the game the next time.
You can then backup that data easily on your PC :)
dreary79

Sounds like a very nice feature. =) Is there any way to get the saves off of the commercial games I already have? And then use them with the rom?
Social-Zero
09-09-2005, 07:13 PM
There should be a way of doing that by using the tools provided with the Gflash which are all still beta, I haven't really checked them out all well yet, but I know there are some pretty complicated programs in the bunch lol.
One thing I don't get is how I can do the same save backup thing for GBA. They say I should press L + R + A&B at the same time to bring up a simular menu for backup up saves, but it's not working...
Oh well, an update with be available soon anyway, until then I will just wait and continue to enjoy my Rom of Nintendogs ( the ones from Lube ) they patched it into a DoFat edition and it boots in 1 second now ! yay !

No the G6 does not require the cartridge to be the same size, nor does the G6 save anything onto a commercial cartridge.

You can save without GBA SAVE too, but with NDS save, you can't back it up and share it around with everyone.
But saving does require the user to know what he's doing at times since you have to select the right slots and such

And you can test those DoFat editions if you know where to get them.
Besides, only beta testers are able to get them from their ftp, but you can try mailing them to ask !
Just like you get roms from " those places "
This from a site I ordered a G6 from..
Now, the supply of G6 and M3 CF are not so stable because the production is at the testing stage.
It would be normal after 10/10/2005. You may consider to buy G6 or M3 at that time.
If you want to have the G6 or M3 CF earlier, you may send money to us. Please don't push us, we will send the your orders as first come first.
