View Full Version : DRE Weirdness!

I got my Wii in the first batch of PAL machines.. I then chipped it as soon as WiiNja V2 came out and have near enough zero problem.

Recently, I have started to get DREs.. But I don't really believe that its actually a read error as such, as there appears to be a pattern.

Sometimes, I can try to play a game, it would boot and then almost immediatly give a DRE (and crash). I then had to hold the power button for 4 seconds and after this the game played fine.

Another version of this problem is that I games which keep giving a DRE at the roughly the same point (power off doesn't help).. But after putting in another game, I can then load the disk which gave the DRE with no problems.

A few nights ago, I played Metroid for the first time, and managed to get a couple of hours in with no DREs, which would indicate that the disk is fine.

Tonight I got hold of Boogie.. It gave me 2 cases DREs in the first few minutes, so I gave up and put in Metriod again.. Just as the game started, Metrid gave me a DRE.

After messing about for a bit, I then got Metroid to start and have now been able to play Metroid for another few hours without a DRE.

This certainly doesn't seem to be media related to me, as surely I would get DREs all the time...

But to tell you about my media, I have always used Ritek and right now I am using 8x media but burning at 4x.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Jon

i heard somewhere that ritek 8x's need to be burned at 8x not 4x.. so you could try that to prevent dre's

(also there're some bad bunches of riteks i think)

I guess it could be a bad batch of Ritek... Infact, I am starting to have my suspicion about the disks.. EVERY SINGLE Ritek I have seen before, as a black number in the middle, which has the format of something like:

V1-09A035xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
J4-11A035XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

But these new disks (Sumvision) say "bJE703265629b21" and I have NEVER seen a Ritek with this kind of lable before.. CDVInfo does say that they are G05, but I am wondering if they are 'fake'....

With regards to burning G05 disks at 8x instead of 4, I am not convinced.. I have burned 10,000s of Riteks and ALWAYS burn them at 4x with no problems.. If anything, 8x gives me problem.

Thanks for your help.. I would like to do some experiments with media, but because my problem is so 'random' its impossible to know if I have fixed it...
