View Full Version : Even the Xbox 360 Elite can get the Red Ring of Death
Here's a picture that a shopper snapped while visiting a local store, it shows that even the Xbox 360 elite has the capability to be victim to the Red Ring of Death.

My mate bought an Elite on the Friday in the UK launch, took it home switched it on and bang! ROD! Didn't even get to play a game. I had to laugh, he didn't though!

well no ****! its an error message thats like being surprised that a game has a debug option. seriously the red rings are error indicators not a plague that if your 360 can do it once it will always do it.

Thats as funny as jerzmob and l33t hax0rz thinking his fanboy opinions matter, lmao .Seriously its a sad sight but **** happens i guess. At least it wouldn't matter if they send it in and get it upgraded/repaired.No point crying about it, its just a console.

Everyone is missing the point IT'S PHOTOSHOPED! The light that is out is supposed to be lit up, and the one BELOW it is supposed to be out. It was most likely the cables for video/audio were not plugged in causing the FOUR lights to light up, then someone photoshoped the top light out not realizing that wasn't correct...

i don't think it's photoshoped, because; the casing stoped the xbox form getting fresh and cool air and we don't for how long it's been on.. maby serveal days...

what are you talking about? its always the upper left quadrant and both lower quadrants for the 3RLOD.
and when you flip the console on its side the rings adjust themselves to display correctly.

Are you serious or joking? Did they really put a sensor in there for that?

WTF? SUCH a waste of money! Why couldn't that take that in there and use the money from that to put something better than the x-clamp in there... -_-;;

haha... i'm guessing its kinda like how the PS2 had the adjustable PS logo on the drive.. MS probably wanted to make it transparent regardless of how you setup your unit.
but the xclamp isn't really the problem. the xclamp only becomes an issue if the GPU begins to overheat.
in otherwords it's just a plain ol' bad cooling design.
i'm betting the elite in the PIC is of the original Zypher boards without the extra heatsink.

if you have that many problems with the 360 there's something wrong. i'm going to say user error. you either keep your house way to hot to start out with or have the 360 in a cabinet or maybe you try and leave it on 24/7. but even if their product is crappy and has a 33% fail rate burning up 6 consoles is a little much don't you think.

It's in a unventilated plastic hot box. It's a heat issue. Of course it's going to RROD.
On that note, what the HELL are you people doing with your consoles that makes them blast with heat? Seriously.
I got mine at a fucking pawn shop for $200 and it was a Premium. Thing's been cracked open (modded) and kicked over several times.
Honestly, it's a hardware issue, but what the fucking HELL? Did someone say they were on their sixth? Is your **** encrusted with cheeto residue? Are you fans being shorted by an air of intense sweat and BO?
Do you submerge your **** into water to cool it?
I keep mine on an old mother board box and keep it elevated by an old tube of Gorilla glue and a small stack of prisma markers. ****'s been running hard for nearly two years.
The 360 hardware was put together as cheap as MS could make it. Everyone does that, but Microsoft is one of those few American companies that just goes the extra mile and makes sure you components are much shittier. It's obviously true they cut too many corners and now it's biting them hard.
Granted, keep that **** in mind and treat your 360 like a special effects operator treats a fucking break away cable. It's meant to HOLD, but you can absolutely certain it's going to break and send a lot of **** flying at somebody.
I seen one with ROD at store. nothing new.

Those demo stations are ventilated, theres an intake fan in the back
Even if it is Photo shopped, don't people realize that these 360's run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year is most retail stores? If I ran my 360 like they do in stores, I wouldn't be surprised to see it not turn on at all!

yup. the scensor works independantly from the xbox os so even if its 3RLOD of a fire in the xbox, as long as there is power on the board the sensors work.

its not a waste of money, the error codes are dependant on what quadrants the lights are lit in wich means orientation is a big factor in figuring out the error and since the xbox can be rested in 2 different positions it has to move along with it so that upper left will always be upper left. or would u prefer having to tilt your face whenever Customer service asks u what lights are blinking lol

Calm down xbot.
For the record the demo/display units were designed by microsoft also, and do have ventilation.
Also these "broken" ps3's, are they actually on and not functioning or are you just being bamboozeled by staff who cba turning it on.
Infact a friend of mine who works at gamestation (uk), says they simply don't turn on the ps3 OR the 360 anymore because people spend less time playing demos and more time buying products, as well as it keeps the scallies on the streets from coming in to rape motorstorm on a system they'll never own because it means to many weeks saving their giro without any weed.

to be fair BOTH the ps3 and xbox kiosks at my gamestop are dead. same reason alot of NDS's are damaged at walmart kiosks, they are just abused beyond normal play, ppl constantly swtiching, loading, reloading, rebooting, and its on 24/7 its obvious kiosks will freeze and require a reboot often, this one was just found before a quick reboot could be made to get it working again. no matter how much ventilation a kiosk has, a ps3 and 360 running 24/7 will freeze up sooner or later.

That is either photoshopped or a system placen in there by a store for the photo opp.
I know cause im friends with a guy who fixes all those things in store and he told me there are NO ELITES in store displays unless the store put it in there - and there not supposed to. M$ only puts Pro/premium systems in the display units.

The ps3 display at my local target has a disk in it that just kind of jiggles and spins about halfway in, I thought it was an elaborate advertising mockup but found out otherwise when some kids came the electronics counter asking if they could play. The 360 there is completely trashed in fact the only console they have thats working is a wii behind a glass case.

which totally explains why half the gamestations and hmv's in the uk now have elites in their display cases and bue dragon dispays parked firmly next to the demo units to promote their elite+bluedragon combos, doesn't it.
