Microsoft: Xbox 360 price drop will steal customers away from PS3

Microsoft's UK marketing manager has revealed that the expects the Xbox 360 price drop will essentially steal away potential PS3 customers and bring them over to the Xbox 360. The marketing manager stated that Sony's price is not family friendly and Sony is expecting a novice gamer to enter into the world of Blu-ray and 'wireless gaming by default.'


The Core console’s price point falls to just £179.99 today – the same as Nintendo’s Wii – whilst the 20GB Premium model is reduced by £30 to £249.99.

And Microsoft’s UK marketing manager for the Xbox 360, Dan Cornelius, believes that the dip in price will steal the attention of new entrants to the market away from PS3 this Christmas.

“If you look at PS3, it’s a lot of money for families to come in at,” he told MCV.

“Sony is requiring a fairly novice gamer to enter into things like Blu-Ray and wireless gaming by default. The Core’s still doing well for us in the UK and the price drop is bound to produce a spike in sales.

These customers like the fact that they don’t have to foot the bill for a load of technology they don’t need. It means we can gain access to a type of consumer that PS3 cannot.”

just in sueing MS for not informing me that my console over heats, and saying that it is not true and that my games would get scrached and i would have a brick with really no good features, and xbox support that has no idea on what they helll they are doing would think that they are from India lol

correct me if im wrong but didnt sony say they had no plans of dropping the price in the uk so the price is still the same. The 360 did drop the price in the uk though

I chose between the 360 and the PS3, and I chose the PS3 because a) Blu-ray, and b) I know it won't fail on me within 1 month of using it.

i'm more of a ps3 fan myself but i got my 360 yesterday. the 3rrod thing doesn't worry me much. microsoft is fixing the problems so if you stuff breaks send it back imo. the only thing that a lot of people here ***** about it is if you mod it then it breaks your sol. the rest of this year belongs to xbox and wii. ps3 will pick up the start of 08'. i guess better late than never huh

They sold badly though as more than boots was offering the £150 price in fact most retailers were and the 360 did not increase vastly on sales at the time. and yes under £200 for core but do please add the game needed at probably £20- £40 to be comparable to any u.k. ps3 price point.

But simply my point is £20 will not make a difference in the U.K.

MS needs these price drops to counteract all its bad PR of being an incredibly fragile machine. Magazines routinely mention it's horrendous reliability in all their writeups of the 360 now. It too more than a year for that to start happening, it will probably take a year for it to stop happening. So even if they fix it next month, it's still a PR disaster for months to come.

There's not much MS can do at this point to spur interest. They have Halo3 coming up. That's the only ace up their sleeve, and everyone knows they have it.

I am getting tired of the 3RLOD thing cause I am mostly hearing this from the goddamn PS3 fanboyes who have nothing better to do. Seriously though, why do you PS3 fanboyes care soo much about PS3? I am seriously thinking you must get paid to care this much or you have next to nothing of a social.

Yes the 360 has hardware problems, but they are adressing the issuing as best they can. You stupid a$$ fanboyes just can't see that. I nobody knows how bad it is but if it's 1/3 suffering from this, then the 2/3 can enjoy their console adleast with games like Bioshock. People I know don't really care half as much as you guys do just sending their console in to get fixed. Yes we all know the problem. They're just glad they don't have to pay for the service.

And no Microsoft is not holding the 65nm version of their console back because they the ones getting screwed over with the 1.4 billion dollar hit. So it would be in their best interest to get the console into the market as fast as they can.

Microsoft are not addressing all the 360 faults ok they will fix the 3 rlod for free for 3 years but mines has just died freezing all the time no redlights at all,no picture and controllers wont connect!!A google search will show its not a isolated issue as well but they will change £60 to get it fixed:( When everyone knows its a gpu problem!!!

To the moment is Wii that takes everything, the Ps3 still has disposition many cuts of the price, while the 360 seems to be stop. We will see with Halo 3, if they will succeed in increasing the sales.

Everyone knows? Where is everyone? I hadnt heard of a freezing issue with no picture and no controllers...I would think that if it was that prevalent a problem there would be headlines all over talking about it. A certain percentage of electronics are going to experience failure, a small number of ps3's for example have issues with the slot loading drive. A small number of Wii's had video issues producing dots and garbage on screen at boot up (I was unfortunate enough to get one of those, luckily Nintendo fixed it up pretty quickly) . Both are no where close to the 3rod issue but still some of the more "common" problems on the other consoles. My point is sometimes things fail and the 3rod warranty is no guarantee for anything beyond the problem its ment to cover.
