Kevin Levin has confirmed that his team are now aware of the widescreen Bioshock bug and they are looking into at the moment. He pleads with gamers to understand that a fix will take a bit of time to arise such is the nature of software development time scales.

Hey guys-

Sorry about all the conflict. IG development people (specifically Chris and Rowan who are both on vacation) were trying to take a day off today (we've been working about six months 6-7 days a week). I'm trying to see what everybody's concerns are and consult with the staff.

I know people are frustrated, but we are dealing with internet time here. It wasn't until 7 pm EST that I was able to even talk to anybody in our Australian studio, which is open today (9 AM their time).

I hear you that not everybody was thrilled with the PC launch. And I'm trying to collect information and see what the facts are. PC game development does not function in a matter of seconds or hours, especially when most of the team is on vacation. But I hear you, and we're looking into the issue. I'll only ask you have a bit of understanding as to the time scale that software development issues must occur in.

Best regards,

Ken Levine

I didn't even notice this "problem". Did anybody else?

If you're even thinking of not getting this games because of this then I am gonna round house kick you in the teeth because is one of the most immersive, diverse, and just pure genius of a game. So much metaphor in this game. It's universally known to be great(gamespot review is BS).

Why is this in the 360 section as its only the pc version that has the bug I believe from previous news talking about it. I certainly have not had any problem with the few hrs I have played so far of the 360 one.

honestly im not sure if the 360 has the bug but i did notice from the screen shots there seems to be more fore arm showing which is noticeable with the bee tonic that aren't visible in the 360 vers. In no way did it bother me playing the game, im on my second round and could care less

Have you just come to these boards to flame?

OT: I wouldnt call this a bug. A bug is a mistake, this looks like it was done intentionally. The 3:4 picture is lower res though so I dont feel cheated.

They'll fix it with a patch for the PC and another for Live, I don't think is all that hard.

Just so there is no confusion, the problem does exist on the 360 version as explained on the 2K forums.
That is definitely not a happy place right now...

Is it not considered a mistake when they forget to change the FOV aspect ratio to widescreen when it's set on widescreen? The whole reason why I got widescreen was to appreciate the extra FOV in games.

No, because it was done on purpose for whatever reason.
You could call it a bad decision but not a bug. A bug is an unintentional result.

I got to laugh at this one normally I am called a sony fanboy if anything lol.

Look fool I was just pointing out that the other day there was an article on here saying that the pc version of bioshock had this problem and nothing was mentioned about the 360 having the bug so should be in the pc section of the forum. And now its shown as being on 360 game not that I noticed it should be under the general banner.

Is that simple enough for you lol.

You might want to contact them then. You appear to have the only copy that doesnt have this "Bug". Or is your laptop not 16:9 widescreen?

It the same for both the 360 and PC versions according to every source I can find.

Yeah like they didn't know about this.
The game appears a little rushed to me.

Weapons don't fire at all, then you die and respawn only to have the weapon fire. I've seen a few graphic glitches where I'm running and the screen freezes and them I'm 15ft ahead of where I was when it pops back.
I've also notice other minor bugs with jumping, running and ducking when in combat.

I once ran up to a electric wire and tried about 5 times to get my character to duck but he wouldn't.....next thing I know my character dies and I respawn and duck!

I'm not sure what game you're playing, but I would complain about it. I'm almost finished with the game on my 360 and haven't had any hitches, glitches, or bugs. I noticed the 4:3 aspect ratio thing when it was pointed out on the web. I still don't think it affects the gameplay in any way. Like I've said on another thread - if someone didn't point it out, no one would have noticed.

It "seems" fine, or it "is" fine? You can't tell? Like he said, if your's isn't having the cropped widescreen problem, then you are the only one.

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48555

It's been confirmed. Apparently, the annoying part about this cropped widescreen is that 2K promised the game would have true widescreen.

it seems very strange that anyone these days would release a game that didn't support a widescreen view, especially what is supposed to be a cutting edge fps. if it's not a bug then it was a very bad design decision that should have been changed long before the launch.

BioShock Widescreen Working as Intended, Says 2K (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48578)

"Instead of cropping the FOV for 4:3 displays and making all 4:3 owners mad in doing so," she continued, "we slightly extended the vertical FOV for standard def mode: we never wanted to have black bars on people's displays... We felt that it best served our goal of keeping the game experience as close as possible to the original design and art vision on both types of displays.

I can understand their point. A lot of PC gamers would still have the standard 4:3 screen so why would they want to alienate a large proportion of their customers. If this was a console exclusive then it would be another matter because 16:9 tv have become mainstream enough to focus on.

Theres a patch being devloped (so far only for the demo) so PC owners should have the choice soo enough. I'ld prefer to keep to what was intended by the games designers.

You were warned in another post for talking about "leaks" IIRC you were told if you talked about it again you'ld be banned.
You've mentioned waiting on the leak several times in this thread alone since. Not exactly smart on your part.

sadly this pales to nothing when you read the reports that pc buyers will only be allowed to install the game they just bought twice then it stops working. that includes if you upgrade your pc , btw.

the only people who win from this are those who downloaded the pirate version of the game.

amadeus

I was half heartedly looking at buying this for the PC instead of 360 for the mod value but reading up about the Securom mess on the forums i'll stick to the 360 version.

If an antipiracy mesure stops people for using something that they paid for then it's counter productive. Think of a safe that wont open for the owner.
The most elegant solution to piracy i've seen was for robocop 3 on the amiga. It was a little hardware dongle that attached to the back of your comp.

Starting to notice the pattern now. As soon as he meets some kind of resistance to his postings he moves on.
Classic behavioral example of the common bully.
