SKATE demo amazes and impresses - Tony Hawk must be shakin'

Gamespy has posted up an in-depth review on the demo of SKATE. They claim that it performs skateboard simulation the best out of any title available and that includes Hawk's series. It seems as if EA has come up with a true winner and the pressure is now on Tony Hawk's to oust the new champion of skateboard sims.

The SKATE demo did amaze and impress me. Even though I've been a big fan of the Hawk games right up to the point where I get a job over it, I don't have any allegiance or bias towards one game over another. I like realism in my games and I think that's what video games are all about...simulation. I think SKATE does skateboarding simulation very well. The best so far without a doubt. Although the game hasn't even dropped yet if this demo is anything to go by then the world has yet to see a more true to life skating game. But of course we have yet to see THPG. Could that be the game to challenge SKATE when it lands? We can only hope so because as of this moment...Tony Hawk's Proving Ground does have a lot to prove.

Just finished playing the demo, I have never been much of skating game fan but this one visually is too nice looking not to put some effort into it...and I ended up liking it, seems like it has a pretty steep learning curve though (the last time I skated I owned a banana board with kryptonics and had a Tony Alva poster in my room). It might be easier for people who are more familiar with modern skating though.

This game is a lot of fun. Much more realistic compared to Tony Hawk, of course there are some things that aren't very real (its a video game). But overall i enjoy the game a lot.

I am so glad this is shaping up good as tony hawks needs the competition to keep it honest and push skateboarding games forward as tony hawks as sort of lost its way recently.

The person playing in that video obviously hadn't played for more than an hour haha.
I bet that they didn't land that frontflip, they just wanted to look good. You can't just go doing them everywhere, it is more realistic. Don't worry.

Heh, I'm still staff at PTH. Never do anything there anymore though, too busy with work. The skate demo rocked, I must have played it yesterday 6 times until the demo ran out. I was constantly annoying my friend and my cousin with "check out how realistic this looks!" and "OMG PHYSICS".

no no no, you see the way things work around here is that if the 360 gets good publicity then its fake. Appearantly the 360 is not capable of being a good system but if its for the ps3 then its all gravy and if the ps3 gets bad publicity then we are fanboys

TH to be honest never impressed me, isnt it the only skating game around anyway? i find it ironic that TH is beeing challeneged by EA when i have always grouped TH right along with many EA titltes as the same rehash game with a new # at the end of the title. its nice to know that theres another skating game now to give some veriety.
