I have an idea to launch an eboot but I'm not sure if its possible because I don't usually code things I've only done a couple of things. So here's the idea.... If you type File:/portal/index.html and you have a portal on your memory stick u can launch it. So I tried to launch psp chess by typing File:/psp/game/pspchess/eboot.pbp and it asked me if I wanted to download the file into the update folder so I click ok but then there was an error downloading it so I'm not sure if this is a possible weak point in security or just wasn't able to download it but anyway back to the idea part. If its possible to code an eboot to launch the same way as the index.html file does then maybe we could launch the games through the web browser

Also Would it be possible for you to code a java script thing that would launch the eboot as if it was a web page?? Then we could play the eboots as they were java games.

Ps: I'm just guessing on this whole thing but maybe you can take it and work with it.

It doesn't really work like that, but it is a possible method of attack. The problem is that the reason we have homebrew on 1.0/1.5 is that they figured out a flaw in how sony checks the encryption on the eboot, and sony has patched this. If there were a way to say, tell the psp thru java to skip the check, then you may be on to something, but I'm not sure.

Get something simple, but important.
Downloading does not mean executing.

When you download a setup file does it automatically execute?, no.
by downloading a file, (be it off the memory stick or the internet), the browser is only acting exactly how it was coded to act, thus by using something trvial such as the browsers downloader, you will not be launching games anytime soon.
additionally, if v2.00 ever does get cracked, it wil be of no use to you or the other kids that were tempted by a browser, because your already v2.00 and cant execute anything anyway.
instead you'd have to wait for a newer version, and hope that one day gets cracked, without resisting temptation to upgrade for other, unforseen goddies.
If you were 1.51 or 1.52, and homebrew was an important part of your gaming experience, you should have waited for developments on the firmware update, if you were a 1.50, i pitty you, i really do.

reguardless, it's v2.00 now so stop using your windows browser to read this, take your psp a few meters away from your comp and enjoy your browser...

lol yea naneo you tell it how it is and your very rite I had 1.52 so I updated but what someone else was saying was when the us release is out they would be able to tweak it to launch homebrew ( probabley not true though ) :(

I do know that they added 7 new prx files and now there are 2 checks at the psp screen and probabley some after...

PS: Actually the browser was worth it its nice and fast and I can go in my pool and use it and even nextdoor to my friends house :)

That javascript thing is a great idea.
Sortta like the IE thing that was just made to bypass the serial check when updating windows.

Now to wait for someone to find a way to do it..
