ok, USB1.1 is just way too slow when it comes to transfering 500+ megs of whatever. I installed an Ultra 6 port usb2 pci card and everything went well. Using my mouse off of it so it obviously works. Connect psp to it and windows crys about device not recognized blah blah blah. I know it isn't the usb cable because it works jsut fine with USB1.1. Any help would be much appreciated.

i'm having USB issues too, though not on a usb2.0 connection, just a 1.1...my comp crashed and after a clean install it won't recognize my PSP (even though it did) using winxp sp1a..upgraded to sp2 did nothing...and i'm thinking its a failure with my PSP because it won't connect to ANY computers now...not even my work pc...
damn....any info you learn please update here. thnx

ok, found the solution myself, seems the usb connection is only active when you are in settings -> usb connection. logical thing it is ;)

I knew there was a reason to include Manuals with PSPs.

Bring on the noobs!
I knew this was the issue when I read the thread :)
There will soon be dashboards that enable USB by default, until then you'll have to enable it each time you want to use it.

cato, thanks for the reply. but not choosing "usb connection" on the psp is not the issue. USB1 has always worked fine, just 2.0 that still doesn't connect. I gave up a while ago, so anyone with some other advise would be nice :P

i noticed that if i plug in the charger bit of the usb cable into the ps2 as well as the usb bit... my computer thinks it only has a 1.1 usb port and tells me to use a 2.0 port

heheh

unplug the charger and my computer thinks it has a 2.0 port

guess its the power drain on the usb port that screw it up

P.S. im starting to get pc reboots pluging and unplugin the psp into the usb cable now as well

just my 2C

I have the built in charger on this usb cord also, wonder if thats the issue. Or this P3 has a bios way out of date or something... ran out of ideas :(

Make sure you connect to a USB port which is part of the motherboard and not into a USB header port. I used to have same problem and found it was because I plugged my PSP into the front ports which are fed from a USB header on the motherboard, placed it into one of the ports on the back of the PC and everything was fine.

BTW Hi to all.

Finally a solution, turns out the usb cable is junk. I was googling and someone had the same exact issue. The problem is the pelican dual charger/usb cable. it is complete crap. I suggest nobody buy one. Unless you dont care to use USB1.1

Congratulations! You have bought the most overpriced psp usb charger. Joking aside, the reason this problem occurs is because of the pelican usb+charger having a very weak chip. That giant block on the wire contains a chip that regulates usb traffic. This chips has a high failure rate because of the charging end of the wire. That' s the reason why it works great at first, then blah. I downloaded about 25gb off my psp last month and my pelican wire failed. I bought a new wire and it works. Pelican sucks.

It happens to other cables too. This occurs when cables are stretch out to far and a wire goes lose. i suggest buying a psp usb cable that runs straight, with no boxes etc attached on the wire.

I have the same problem with my psp 1.5 and win xp pro.
I tried anything you can think even a fresh install of win and no luck and I tried with 2 diff. cables.
i did a little search and many people are having the same problem but not real solution.
Last solution that people said is working is this program Autorun USB v1.4, which autorun your usb devices.
I will try this weekend because I cant dl anything with this pc.
You can find the program here;

This may sound silly, but I think something with custom backgrounds on 1.5 psp fucks with USB 2.0. So, if you're using custom backgrounds, flash stock backgrounds back on and see if it changes. With any result please reply to the thread.

Last night I tried the software Autorun USB v1.4 and it worked for me for few minutes then I was back to zero.
Im not sure if it was the software or me that fixed the problem because I was installing and reinstalling the drivers for my usb ports until it was reconigze by win.
if somebody try it please tell your experience here
