A member of the official Xbox forums has posted up a list of proposed features for the Fall Update, some of which are ones which sound totally believable such as new screensaver options, compatibility with 3rd party wireless controllers but there is one which stands out like a sore thumb - Xvid support. If its true then thats a nice list of new stuff

I heard some where else about the New XNA Game Launcher thing so who knows :D

I think ill still use XBMC for all my media needs but it will be nice if the 360 can play HD XviD stuff.

I like the eta for download completion. I hope to high hell that xvid will finally be supported.

I got the vista ultimate, what is a good add-on to allow me to stream non supported vid types? I used one about 1.5 years ago(can't remember the name), but I'm sure there is better ones available now.

Tanscode360 works for me, but only in windows media centre.

Thats the program I used before. Transcode 360. I still had issues a while back with some video's to displaying properly and being really pixalated. I will have to try the Vista version to see if it runs any better for me.

Thanks

Would be nice if most of these happen, but i can't see M$ allowing xvid playback not with their stance on DRM etc etc. But i'll keep an open mind till its officially confirmed or denied.

This would be huge. Nothing about webrowser though eh? was really counting on that in the fall update but I will take Xvid as a trade off.

Web browser would be mad sick for the fact their are HD videos from games on sites like IGN/Game Trailers etc.

But I'm loving the XViD. Hopefully it's true.

Thats a quality improvement to.

if m$ will add xvid support on xbox360, sony will also add it. so meaning this two will supporting warez scene who are rlsing avi files. this would be awesome if they added this feature on xbox and ps2 long time ago. but still great news for xvid movie dlers, we wont be needing pc to play our videos.:D

XviD is probably the most requested feature for the 360 but i think M$ said a while back they wont support XviD ever, I cant remember if im making that up in my mind or not though.

youre talking about xbmc (homebrew app) nah. ihave that but xbox cant play 360 games. 360 with xvid is a badass. cuz most videos that most people watch on net are avis.

Um, where is the 16:10 support?

Um, where is the 16:10 support?

exactly what I was thinking. Nearly all widescreen LCD monitors are 16:10. M$ themselves sell a vga cable (which I use), so if they're gonna support vga while advertise HD, then do it right.

hmm....

xvid support means that my external hard drives loaded up with movies will finally be of excellent use :)

I would love to see xvid support but I think that due to drm issues MS would sooner support itunes.

wouldn't divx make more sense since xvid is supposed to be illegal in some countrys because it voilates a few software patents

There are too much things in an alone update, I believe that the Xvid support is a great fake, besides we also see it with the readers from house, they always go out some new codec, it would be boring to always be to update.

Do you think all the HD releases gonna work on 360? like x.264 and Matroska ones. I bet it will be basic xvid if it will ever be as MS wouldn't let HD content through any means other that Live Marketplace.

A lot of nice features, but am I the only one who is really happy about the search bar for Xbox Live Marketplace? Thank God, no more looking through the recent crap to find what I want.

I found that it did have a fair few problems as well, but I found that if you share a drive then unshare it, for some reason it lets you still access the drive but now you can run everything fine. It may well have been fixed since last I tried it, but if it still has the same problem hopefully that should fix things (though it does make things a little long winded having to search the PC for files as opposed to direct access)

More resolutions would be nice as well, having to run a 1680x1050 native monitor at 1280x1024 does not look the best. If it is only the PC resolutions of HDTV's I would be happy as most have the same reolutions as WS monitors.

What I would like to see is the updated list of backwards compatability titles...I have a stack of games that I missed the last generation that I wouldnt mind checking out (found a ton of xbox and ps2 games at a yard sale a few weeks ago for $2 each...I bought them all :))

They just updated it about a month ago, but they always release an update to the BC list at the same time as the dashboard update.

Right...that was the summer update...this is about the fall update so there should be a list of new ones, each update so far has had some.

Not sure I follow you...were you agreeing with me? lol. I do want a new BC update more than DivX though. Still wanting to see Otogi in High Def.
