View Full Version : Run Ridge Racer from 256 memory stick
Firstly go into \PSP_GAME\USRDIR\Data\Sound and remove the .bin file, sadly this means you lose the soundtrack.
Next find USRDIR of another game and search for a small movie file (.PMF) in movie folder probably, i found one that was 410KB.
OK so youve got your tiny movie.pmf from another game, open ridge racer\PSP_GAME\USRDIR\Data\Movie, and rename your tiny movie.pmf to each of the .pmf names in this folder, copy and paste, overwriting the originals with your renamed tiny movies.pmf (you can leave the original ,opening.pmf, if you want the start up movie to remain)
Run using hook boot.

will it not work if you just replace the movies with text documents (using the same name as the orig), then rename to pmf files and c/p?
i dont know i didnt try, but i think the game needs to run a movie hence i replaced them all with the tiny movie

It is too bad that even a 512mb stick cannot hold RR with the sound in place , unless somebody can extract the large sound .bin file and just remove the music (then put back to .bin and replace having the sound effects in there) . Probably not going to happen but who knows ... ;) .

That big .bin file is only music. Sound effects and the announcer are still in. Its perfectly enjoyable without the music, imho.

Is there any way of extracting the individual tracks from the sound file so that we can choose at least some music (I love the original RR tunes!)?
I took a look at the big sound.bin file in ISObuster and it just showed as "Track1", but it looked like an audio file. I didn't have time to extract it but I'm wondering if we could re-sample that music in there.
Gonna have a go when I get home.

Does not seem to work for me with a 0 kb file but if you use an ultra small .pmf it should not matter much on the over-all size . I ripped my UMD down to 184mb with a working .pmf .

I tried to extract the .bin file and came up with nothing other than another single file ;) .

Could this method be used with any iso
or at least the "change the *.pmf" part

I think most of the games allow the .pmf files to be changed ;) .

Are there other files that can replaced, like the *.prx files?
