I have pre-ordered a UK PSP for the launch in September but am having 2nd thoughts.....
i presume it will be firmware 1.52 which currently cant run backups/homebrew....
I am only interested in the PSP for watching movies (not UMD - Divx/mpg etc) and emulation, and would probably never buy a game, so is it worth getting u reckon? Is there a good chance that it will be cracked so i can run the emu's?

It's likely to be running firmware 2.00 now, since it comes out next week in Japan.
In your position, I would try find a 1.50 PSP import.

The chances that a 1.52 or 2.0 will be cracked are low because everyone with a 1.5 will be happy with it and dont touch it anymore. The best you can do is cancel your order if possible and get a 1.5 version.

Possibly the most ignorant post I have ever read in relation to the exploiters/crackers of any scene....
When 1.0 reigned supreme everyone said "Oh, 1.5 will never be cracked" and 1.0 firmware machines went for ludicrous sums on eBay etc...
When the 1.5 swap exploit was released it was decryed as a fake, until it was actually tested...Then the naysayers started hooting about the swapping which was soon remedied...
Now we have 1.5.1, 1.5.2 and 2.0 firmwares kicking around and people such as yourself are hollering about "everyone with a 1.5 will be happy with it" - What about the massive European market who have not had an official release yet and when it does drop will more than likely be a 2.0?
Anything that can be made can be cracked - its just a matter of time...Personally I think that the key to PSP sucess is not to find exploits in the firmware but to create a custom firmware that circumvents the security check and flash it to the PSP (ala TSOP flash on an Xbox) or that Xecutor rumour that was kicking around where they were going to sell SMT reworking stations to installers to remove the firmware chip, reflash it and reinstall it.
Personally I don't have a PSP yet but I have ordered one of those LE white ones from Japan :D Will be opening it up and taking a peek once it arrives...
While it is true that 2.0 might be cracked eventually I would still advice you to get a 1.50 PSP. Otherwise you might as well wait until the price drops and then buy a 2.0.
