Some crazy hardware engineer has managed to connect up an ordinary USB keyboard to the PSP, don't ask how or much else as we are simply unsure just have a whole bunch of pictures showing this savvy invention off ;).

This took alot of cutting, cables and then some to complete, but at least it's connected - the creator of this masterpiece says that soon he will let us know exactly how he created this hardware modification, of course the software side of things is not fully functional.

Read more: here (http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=4262)

So how did he do it ? what's next ? Isn't this cool ;)

Tell us what you think right here :D

Why wouldnt the alleged hacker take a picture of the actual CONNECTION point? That would be of most interest to me. I know what a keyboard and PSP looks like.

As fake as fake can be.
You know recently i connected my digital camcorder to the PSP via USB and it turned into a DVR. Of course the software still needs some tuning but otherwise it works perfectly.

I wonder if he used the PSP SDK... Anyone notice the "Smart USB" cable being used? Of course, it could all be fake, but...

Well, using the smart USB cable I wasn't able to get it working on the Navigator ... however, it may be possible that it works in Wipeout Pure's browser, or in some homebrew software he's written... I'll keep checking :)

Ok look guys, its not complicated:
-a USB keyboard needs POWER
-the PSP USB port doesn't have USB host capabilty
-therefore it cannot deliver power
-therefore this mod must be fake since it doesn't show where the power comes from

I can connect a USB hub and 127 devices to a PSP if I do the right wiring, but they will all be non-functional. Big deal.
Actually had he used an active USB hub it would have a little crediblilty since he could have found a way to patch the USB drivers. But the lack of explanation and the lack of technical details this guy delivers clearly show that he's just a clueless noob trying to physically connect something that has no chance to work (like this).

Actually, the PSP can provide power and run in host mode, or at least it appears that way. Consider the new snap-on cameras coming out for the PSP in Korea. They must get power from somewhere, and that somewhere is likely the PSP and its formiddable (sp?) 1800 mAh battery. They're also likely just retrofitted USB cameras running on Sony's OS, which I'm sure USB drivers are available for, since it runs a MIPS 4000 processor.

I don't get why everyone is so shocked over this...

the guy connects a USB keyboard to a device with a USB port, first off, and second he doesn't even code a driver for it, so it is completely non-functional.

teh sony cameras get powere from teh usb so yes it can host power

alternatively
all this cutting
and crap this guy did
he totally overlooked the simplest thing ever

http://www.jaykang.com/usbtyfetotyf.html

usb female to usb female

use teh sony
usb mini to usb male
onto one side of the converter
and the desired hardware to teh other side of the converter

and u have succesfully conected a given usb hasrdware to teh usb
and all that is left to do now
is to write an app to run those given hardwares individually or an app that ill let you run teh drivers from a given directory on your psp's pro stick

Well, unless you need a FULL SIZE keyboard for some reason, you should get something like this (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=4676632). I have this particular model IR keyboard and it works great with the PSP. Still trying to decide what to do with it... no one has done much with keyboards on the PSP simply because most of the stuff you do on the PSP doesn't need a keyboard. I'm using IrDAmon from PS2Dev to look at the output of the 3169ww, so I know it works fine on the PSP, I just need to make a couple routines, a keymap, and stick it into something like Basilisk. There's an app that needs a keyboard. :D

I don't sincerely use the psp to sail in internet, unfortunately I don't have the switch Wii Fi,but I imagine that for the others is an useful thing.
