My ds lite suddenly stopped functioning properly, it is fully charged and i've tested with the ac adapter, but my ds lite seems to only power up for half a second, flash a white screen and then go off.

i've not even considered opening it yet until i know what i have to tweak / replace.

has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any ideas?

cheers.

Sounds like a power fuse got blown to me. You can either replace the fuse, bypass it (losing the protection it offered), or get it replaced by Nintendo. You can also pay a small fee to have someone else replace the fuse for you. For instance, this user at SCDev (http://www.scdev.org/forum/index.php?topic=2648.0) will do it for $15 plus shipping.

It'd cost me way too much to ship to the states. thanks though,if the fuse is all that could be up with it, there's bound to be someone relatively close by that can do it.

I just couldn't figure out what could be wrong, thanks for the help dude. :D

I heard what you said was happening from someone who bricked there DS. they said after they bricked it from a yoshi island DS rom that was really a bricker it would just flash a white screen and turn off right when he turned it on.

... one of my sons broke the hinge of his original DS. So after a while the power wire broke & the top screen went blank. I wanted to use it with just the lower half, so I cut through the multi-wire circuit connnector. Now, when I go to turn it on, it flashes the power light for 1/2 second, then shuts down. Apparently, the DS checks to see if the upper screen is okay. If it senses a problem (probably checking on current or pure resistance, or maybe querying a processor) it shuts down the whole thing. Bummer, because I want to use the lower half as an MP3 player w/the Games & Music cartridge. Oh well.

i don't get how it could be bricked.. it was just left in my bag with an original copy of metroid prime hunters in it, i'd literally been playing it about 3 hours before this problem arose, which made me think it could have been knocked or the battery could be knackered. but i've sent it off to be repaired now anyway. :D

It means your top screen became disconnected. If you have a regular DS, which is the only I've seen the internals of, it means under the wide cable coming from the bottom half, there is a tiny ~4 wire wide cable that came undone. Plug that back in and you are ready to play again.
