View Full Version : Is Wiikit a good Mod Chip?
First of all, I'm a noob, so please pardon me if my questions are elementary. Usually when something is good, all you have to do is google it and you'll get plenty of pages of people discussing it. I can't find much about the wiikit other than the product pages. What caught my eye about the wiikit is the wire adapter. Half the job is already done for you! All you have to do is solder onto the wii. You don't have to solder onto the chip, base on the picture, it appears you just plug it in. http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-wi-wiikit.html
For a noob who wants to try and install himself, isn't this a dream come true? I was leaning towards having a professional install one for me externally with a dongle, but after seeing the wiikit and seeing how half the job is already done for me. Maybe I may install it internally myself.
Is there a catch? Is there something I should know? Please advise.

I would say if you're looking for the easiest option then go for the Datel Drive Doctor, just my opinion though.

Yes, I'm considering that too. The doctor plus winja firmware! Have you installed the doctor? How do you like it?

I've got one but I'm currently using a wiikey, it's supposed to work really well with wiinja though.

I have the WiiKit and it works great. Just another WiiKey clone, but it does the job. It makes the job a little easier because you don't need to buy any wire, and half the job is already done since you plug it in.

I agree... it was so easy to install, and i had no solder experience.

same here, installed easily and working brilliantly but be careful, my wiikit wouldnt work with any disks (real or backup!) until I loaded wiikey setup disk v1.2. This could be a problem if you have upto date firmware on your wii(v3) as I dont think it will allow you to boot the setup disk:eek:

As someone who is using a Drive Doctor right now, it's awesome. I haven't used the "Official" functions of it, cos I'm not a high level programmer like it seems to need. I guess if I medded with it enough I could figure it out, but it's more fun playing the games. :D The Wiinja firmware works great on it. I am looking forward to seeing what happens with the deluxe firmware they're working on, but I have had no problems so far. Like I said in an earlier post, you may have to do a system format if you update to 3.0 after you install it. Not a big deal though. I hope I answered your question. If you have any more questions, I'll help where I can.

Thanks you stopped me throwing 10 wiikit in the trash....
used wiikey setup disk to menu and wiikit install works 110%
Why does Wiikit need this Kickstart?????

I think all clones need this as they are shipped blank and need to be flashed with the correct setting, or something to that effect. Just dont forget if your installing them on v3.0x Wii's you will need a custom setup disk (which can be found on the forums) because the 3.0 update stops the 1.2 setup disk from booting ;)

I bought a Wiikit, and it works great (knock on wood). I never had any soldering experience and thought it would be one of the easiest to install, and I was right, it only took less than 3 minutes to solder the 6 wires.
The hardest part was figuring out where all the screws went after I took the Wii apart.
But it works great!!
