NooB questionss

Hi,

I tried searching for a COMPLETE NOOB guide for wii modding. I just got a wii that is used (2 months old) so it seems like it can be modded easier. But reading online there seems to be a lot of things to learn, like which mod chip, PAL compatibility?

I am just sorta confused with it all. How come it isnt like the old days where I can just mod my ps2/ps/ds and just play those games??

Anyways if anyone has a guide out there please let me know!

It is like those old days with the only exception that cross-region compatibility has gone down. Go to www.wii-ftw.com for some guides

thanks for responding and the website. . thing is we are getting someone to mod it

he claimed he has done over 600 wii mods since like March and he does a guarantee for it... it almost sounds like that guy who had the awful experience modding the system in the forum way back (i really tried to search around the forum before posting) he says he does wiikey mods

anyways. the thing is that i am getting a friend to mod his wii, he never really modded anything before and i wanted him to experience the awesome-ness of it all

but now reading all this stuff, it makes me worry that i will just end up screwing him over . . .

most worrisome thing is the bricking. so as long as we dont update a pal game on his nstc wii we are fine right?

oo edited to add: what about all these firmware updates? like these updates are mandatory if i want to continue to play with a wii right? like there is no way around it?

and correct me please if i am wrong. So if i update the wiikey with the dvds i burned off their website, i can update my wiikey then it should be okay?

i am just confused cuz i was reading the thread with wiikey and the firmware update of 3.0

so please let me know

Don't worry about the update, all it does is block software mods.

it means you're fine to play normal "backups" just not run emulators and other software

Actually Homebrew does work, just not loaded via SDLoad or the SDLauncher. Technically even GCOS is homebrew. It whould work, but I'm not 100% sure about Homebrew that uses the SD card (SDGecko style, not through the actual SD slot)
