New Wii 3.0 Firmware released today! but may brick your console!

A new firmware has been released today which is dubbed as 3.0U. The rumor of it bricking your console on the 3.0U update is bogus. If you click update again, a message will come up stating "if your wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console". See screenshot below

Full feature list of new 3.0U update:

- Digital Clock Display on Main Channel Screen
- New colour scheme for the mail channel/message
- Disk Loading Channel - The Disk turns 180 left and right
- Forecast Channel Icon (once you click on it)- Now displays the weather without having to enter the channel
- Faster loading times when changing channels/leaving channels
- Faster disk read speeds
- Move contacts on Adresss Book
- News headlines in News Channel menu
- Calendar no longer displays envelopes for the amount of time you played, only messages
- Light bar goes on when disk is inserted or removed
- Able to navigate Wii Settings with + and -
- Scrolling through messages - New sound, and scrolling with B now displays an arrow similar to the Internet Channel

I have a cyclowiz, I am afraid to update it and find out it refuses to play games.

I already know it doesn't brick, can anyone see if it still works correctly?

I also fear that this update will let Nintendo know if we have a modded console or not and will also allow them to disconnect us from the WiFi servers with games back-ups like strikers.

I'm playing Scarface right now with no problems whatsoever, I've tried the Internet, Shopping and Weather Channels, and all of them work correctly. Once again, I'm using Wiikey, not Cyclowiz.

the update WILL NOT brick your console. Doesn't matter what mod you have. For god sakes it's a dvd drive mod!! The Wii motherboard isn't even touched.

Nintendo does have a warning about your system becoming inoperable... this warning comes up AFTER you have already upgraded when you click the upgrade button again. I would say this is only a precautionary measure on Nintendo's part to keep them from being liable for anything that happens on moded Wii's.

Please people, calm down, and stop fanning the flame.

The Problem is...

2.2U + wiikey

You can't be in the main channel screen over 2 second

It will make wii crash and you have to turn it off.

All the function and feature still working properly

but you need to enter one of the channel as fast as you could.

I will post an error screen as fast as I could

Not sure if this update is out for PAL consoles yet...but if it is and someone has tried with WIIKEY or anychip for that matter would be great to hear from you.
Watches the above video and if rumours of the wiikey setup disk not working (hope so as im really into PAPER MARIO!lol!) then by the looks of things I need to get a GCOS disk of which im stumped on where to get one!

So if I understand this correctly the blocked the setup discs for wiikey and cyclowiz.. but they still run if you first use gcos? (perhaps you could even just reburn with the gcos multi image menu on the disc there?)

Pal wii with wiinja v1. Updated from 2.2E -> 3.0E, everything works fine, also online games etc.

They have NO clue about the things, so they'd know NOTHING if I did return it cos of a bricking) Well the good news is, Drive Doctor patched with Winjav2 firmware, works like a champ. AR disc is still a no-go though without GCOS. With GCOS it loads and all, but I can't really get codes to work. Then again, it's always been hit and miss with mine. Games work perfectly. Played Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Sunshine with NO difficulty. so have no fear, DD DOES work after the update.

Just updated my PAL Wii with cyclowiz, everything still working 100%.

Including the Cyclowiz 3.5 fw update disc.

Not sure what the cyclowiz setup disc is, so can't test that 1 till I findout what it is.

But tried a couple of my backups, an original, weather channel, news channel.

All working 100% fine.

Well, kinda a mixed bag. It displays the headers on the channels screen, and when I select that channel, but when I start it I get an error that the latest info could not be retrieved. Maybe they're detecting the mods and just slowly "Breaking" various functions. I've heard of stranger things happening.

OK, here's an update. All channels work now. I backed up my stuff and did a system format. I can now access all channels and they act like they're supposed to. If you actually use the news channel (I don't much cos there are better sources) this is the way to fix it. I figured with my stuff backed up, what was the worst that could happen? I hadn't DLed much from the wii shop, so even if that somehow got miraculously hosed, I wouldn't be out much. Well, like I said, it works like a charm now with NO ILL EFFECTS. hope this helps some people.

To be honest, i'm not really all that impressed the update, i reckon in the next one we should be able to make our own wii menu skins, that would be awesome!
