Hi, am not the player of these games, but my 8 yr old loves his DSL and I bought this Max Media Dock and a 2G CF card etc... my other techie son has gotten a few games for him, but when I do the same things as he has; download the game, use Max_Overload_v1_2 to change .nds to patch files, copy .pat and .nds file to CF, and then run the Max Media player browser, select file, and it usually comes up with an error like, .sav data incompatible, or the game just won't play at all? My older son says that some "just won't work, have to find ones that will" but I find it hard to believe people would be uploading these roms if they didn't work!? Also, now that patch program comes up with an error when I try to patch them, no matter which choices I check or uncheck.. seems like the "patch 9 " is the only one that will patch thru? Heck, I don't even know what the ____ I'm talking about now!lol Can someone please help an ignorant parent learn a new trick!?
TIA, Fred

After reading a few posts here, I realize I have no idea what I'm doing?? Any help would be so greatly appreciated! =>

Not all games will work with the Max media Dock and some games can be played using the Max crass method to change the Arm7, which makes it compatible to the Max media Dock.

Thanks for your reply => I tried patching using the Max_overload, but most of the games will only patch with the Arm9. The other two (the Arm7 1.0 and Arm7 v 2.0) say "error"... Maybe there's something I'm not looking at right here - is there a better way? or, what is the BEST way? I have modded both of my kids' XBOXs' and worked extensively on computers, but this DS thing is new to me. I don't want to change it's firmware as I've seen my older son do so with his PSP and have to find someone to trade with older bios' and such with when he wanted to play other games. He seems to always end up in some kind of mess!lol There must be some system like the MaxMedia that will allow one to do this without altering the system? or... is there another patcher besides the Max_Overload that works better?

Thanks for your help!
Fred

The MMD and MMP are relatively bad for homebrew and commercial games compared to other devices on the market, but they are the only ones you can walk into a store and buy. The others you must buy online but are easier to use. With slot-1 devices (except the Games N' Music) you can drag and drop clean roms onto it and launch them fine. Homebrew might require DLDI patching, which is as easy as right-clicking a file thanks to the DLDIrc program.

That was very informative => Wish I would've gone to a forum BEFORE I bought the MMD, but it will still be useful for many things. Is it possible that someone could lead me in the proper direction for a good device to use? If necessary, please email me at deermountainwoodart[at]earthlink[dot]net for some suggestions. I don't want to buy another thing and find that it won't do what I want it to do either! =>
Thanks again bgmnt! NOW, I know!!

Any of the following devices will support clean roms and should work for your purposes: M3 Simply, R4, Supercard DS, CycloDS Evolution. There are others, but those are the recommended ones. Note however that the Supercard DS is harder to use and therefore might not be good for your first cart. An M3 Simply or R4 would probably be the better choices.
