So im new to the wii scene and i plan on getting a wii soon....what do i need To know To Prevent Brick or semi-brick when i get a wii?(My
cousin is gonna mod it with a wiikey Clone)
When I install a modchip is there a chance of braking my wii?

There is always a chance of bricking your Wii when you install a mod chip if you don't know what you're doing. If you think you have the soldering skills to install it then good luck to you. If you get one with cut IC legs then I recommend getting a professional to install it. Cut IC legs are becoming the norm these days.
If you install the Wiikey properly the only way you can brick it is if you update your system with the wrong region game, ei/ a JAP ot NTSC game on a PAL console. The best way to avoid this is to stay up to date online. You can also use Wiibrick blocker to modify any games so they don't update your system.
these questions have been covered numerous times on these forums
either make sure you always have the latest firmware updated by connecting your wii to the net
alternatively you can download tools like wiibrickblocker (google) and patch games that have an auto update function when placed in your console
chances of your wii breaking? depends on how good your cousin is with the soldering iron

at the moment there is no other way of updating the consoles firmware besides doing it via Nintendo's online service. Why wouldnt you want to do it that way? all it is, is point and click and Yes and your done!
